PR Nationalist Party Leader detained/arrested @ SJU

http://www.metro.pr/locales/impiden-...j76U8kw9w59fM/

Translation:

Nationalist Party leader, Francisco Torres, is being held on Monday at the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport without knowing the reason for his arrest.

According to Torres, he was detained by TSA employees while while attempting to board a flight to New Orleans.

He insists that the federal agency denied his departure from the country (PR) and he's presently detained at the airport without being told why.

Is he arrested? Denied to fly? TSA cannot arrest him, or detain him anywhere.

Since TSA is the standard whipping boy for anything security-related, I suspect that he is mis-identifying those holding him (CBP, perhaps?) as TSA.

He is "detained." Not entirely sure what that means. Reporters often have a hard time with legal terms, and it's not clear to me what's going on here, aside from the fact that he was not allowed to fly to NOLA.

Interesting. On a related note, check out the story where the photographer in the Puerto Rico airport was accosted by LWS (ladies with shades) and photos were deleted. We still don't quite know who they were.

A local news station (WAPA) reports that Torres went to the airport to purchase a ticket to NOLA, TSA refused to sell him the ticket (????) and then he was detained (?????).

It's all rather confusing:

Yes, but selling tickets likely an unobtainable skill.

I would definitely not put it past the upstanding TSA employees to scalp boarding passes for profit.

That's brilliant! Scalp a ticket to someone. Deny them entry to the sterile area. Scalp the same ticket again to the next punter. Rinse & repeat. In fact, it's so brilliant I therefore doubt anyone at TSA would ever think of it.

Yep. But PR is colloquially referred to here as 'el país' or 'the country'.
