PreCheck and time through checkpoint

This has been tickling my brain for a while now, but it's only on the last 3-4 trips that I've started really paying attention - but it seems my belongings get more of a once-over at PreCheck airports than not. At DFW last week, I stood there for almost two minutes while the TSO stared at my belongings on the screen. Seems to be typical lately. Anyone else have this experience? I can't decide if it's because they have less people to screen or are overly suspicious of persons selected for expedited screening.

The odd thing to me is how they can automate every part of the screening process except the carry on x-ray. Are there really no companies with lobbyists working on this?

It might take longer to clear bags that don't have laptops removed.

I have noticed that it takes longer, but I have also noticed that the X-Ray appears to be off when I put my belongings on the belt (Precheck at IAD and DEN were both empty when I walked up). Perhaps there is a warm up/calibration time before they can look?

Yeah, if laptops and liquids aren't removed, I can see them taking a little bit longer to look at the bag, but two minutes seems extreme.

I don't think I've seen it that long, but they usually take a longer look at my bags in PreCheck. I'm not surprised considering I usually end up with 1-2 laptops, a tablet, and various other electronics in my bag(s), and so they have to take a closer look. Still a lot faster than having to remove and re-pack IME.

I've also noticed they seem to have various settings, as I have seen them look at different angles and colorings.

Noticed it took a little longer at SFO last week, and got a beep at SEA and had my hands swab, TSO said I was just picked at random for that, took about 1 one minute. No big deal to me.

That makes sense.

Although you'd think they could take that much time with everyone and STILL be faster than there are in the normal line...
