Comprehensive List of Allowable TSA Protest Acts
Is there a comprehensive list on here of allowable TSA protest acts/rights? For example:
Take pictures Opt Out Request a private screening Request a change of gloves Request a pre-test (I'm not sure if this is allowable or not) It would also be nice to have a corresponding reference to law/constitution/TSA policy. I've searched but haven't seen anything in one neat place... would be great for newbies to the horror of TSA. |
Great idea.
But isn't it sad that we need to keep track of what we're allowed to do, and not what the government is prohibited from doing? The very idea that such a list is necessary puts Liberty on its head and completely overthrows the American ideal of law. I sure miss America. I wish we could get her back. And soon. |

As I understand it, that means that just because the Constitution doesn't say you have the right (for example) to request a change of gloves doesn't mean you don't have the right to request a change of gloves. And TSA policy consists of whatever the TSA person at the checkpoint on the day says it is. Even if you link to the TSA website where it might say "you can request a private screening", you're likely to be told "we do it differently at this airport" or "the website is out of date" or "that will take too long and (I'll make sure that) you'll miss your flight." Read Paul's excellent thread on TSA's actual conduct about photography vs their own published policy. |

I like what they're doing at JFK, and going after TSA parking scofflaws. They're saying, you're not cops, you're not above the law, you're not wanted and don't tread on our neighborhood.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ (I posted 50, one for each state, but they only allowed 20.) I want my America back. |

Hard to keep tabs, but I don't think you can. Well I suppose you can request, but you won't get one.

I'd really like the answer to this. I let them take me in a back room once, and it won't happen again if I can help it. I mean, if I request a pat-down, of any type, in public, what legal right do they have to say no, as long as I comply?

They have absolutely no legal right to force you into a private room! If you want to watch video of screeners doing exactly that, repeatedly refusing a perfectly civil request for a public screening, you could watch the video here: http://wizbangblog.com/2012/10/14/th...s-dana-loesch/ |

Something else that can be added to the list: wear a protest shirt. I've worn 3 different ones in my travels: one had a pic of Kippie with a dunce cap that said "Kip Hawley is an Idiot - The Bill of Rights Still Applies in Airports Despite TSA's Assertions to the Contrary", another had the terror alert levels explained, with the constitution being burned as the color was elevated, and then a pic of the body scans that said "The TSA Wants to See Me Naked!" I've never been denied boarding with any of those. However, the body scan shirt did earn me a few retaliatory secondaries and other harassment from TSA. |
slow-down
I used a 'slow down' strategy when I flew last Sunday from PHX. I had planned to decline the AIT on the grounds that I can't hold my arms in the surrender position for 5 seconds. PHX was not using them. I was wearing an elastic knee brace with metal stabilizers, an underwire bra, an unzipped fleece jacket, and shoes with metal lace hooks which I did not remove, taking advantage of being over 75. I alarmed the machine and was taken aside for a pat-down. I declined the option of removing my jacket, when asked said I hurt 'everywhere', watched while the guard had difficulty donning new blue gloves over sweaty hands, was positioned facing my belongings, and was patted all over, including inside the elastic waist band of my slacks. She asked me to pull up my slacks leg to see the knee brace, I just shrugged and asked her to go ahead, she did, saw the bottom edge of the elastic,
Then my shoes were tested for explosives.. I just stood calm and very still and said as little as I could. It didn't take too long and there were not surprises. Other passengers of course watched, and I watched others, in disarray, all belts off, trousers drooping, bare feet, carry-ons disorganized, not enough space to regroup,
I wished I had a video of the whole scene, and wonder still about how we have come to this, delegating our security in this way.
Off topic: I had been visiting my granddaughter at college, attended a student event, there was a discussion of immigration and the elections and the question came up What does being an American mean? I think that's a good question I wonder what the answers might be here. My thoughts went to the pledge of allegiance, liberty and justice for all. That seems very libertarian ... Sylvia |
I would never request private screening. Ever. I want witnesses and cameras.
|
I wonder...
Has anyone flipped the bird when assuming the position inside the scanner? If so, has it flagged your hands as weapons of mass destruction? |
....my usual minor protest is to make an exaggerated stupid/funny face or anguished face and cross my eyes when "assuming the position" in the scanners...... most common remark from TSA agent is "oh, you must go through these a lot"........does not seem to affect the scan results.......
