TSA Screening at NATO Summit in Chicago

I got this from a friend that I can trust (I'm sorry but I can not say who or how it is known), but this is all info the info I have.

TSA is screening people entering the NATO Summit in Chicago. Some dozens of TSO's are deployed and the screening includes using AIT. TSA was asked to do the screenings by the State Department and DHS.

Does anyone have additional experience or info?

There is a thread on the topic already:

It includes a link to a news article with some additional info.

I knew about the trains. This info was that they were being used at the summit.

Maybe the mods should merge the threads, but I felt the difference was significant.

I feel the difference between a "TSA-style search" and a "Search by TSA, complete with AIT" is sufficiently significant for a different thread.

The TSA? Who in their right mind would use the TSA for ANY high-security situation?

Because it's theater, not security.

Ink said "those going INTO" the summit are being groped and scanned--ie, attendees. Not necessarily train riders.

I didn't say anything about train riders. I just pointed out differences justifying a different thread. You pointed out one more.

Why is TSA doing screening for a military event, and not someone like the national guard?

There are legal issues (in part, from the Insurrection Act and Posse Comitatus Act) which basically keep official functions of the military limited to their bases (except in emergencies). One way or another, the screening of attendees would have either been performed by government employees or contractors. Only if the event had occurred at a military base would the use of military troops for screening really been an option.
