29 more airports...

http://www.mmdnewswire.com/tsa-annou...ing-70641.html

Well, 29 airports are getting pornoscanners, including my home TLH. I was planning on a summer 2012 trip to south Jersey, and I still can't find anyone who thinks it's not OK that passengers have to choose between a porno-scan or sexual assault. Looks like I'll have to learn how to sleep on a bus. :-)

Well, they are using ATR, not the perv in the booth. That's a plus. If that is some comfort. the problem is that you get the rest of the rubrics too. Nice, sleepy little airports becoming nastier.

You can see it for which US Airports will installed the MMW. I don't see it happening anytime soon. Those passengers are complaining against TSA who is inappropriate to touching the private things and they could be arrested. He could be charge of sexual assaulted. TSA officer could go to jail for that.

Oh, just great (NOT). Two of my airports, FNT and CPR, are on this list. I despise the people who dream up this nonsense.

And my trips to SAT are going to get tougher, with AUS and GRK on the list.

More opportunities to do battle with the blue shirts.

Wow. Infesting MHT and ALB will leave PWM as the only available domestic departure airport within a 4-5 hour drive from Boston.

Yep, several airports around me have been seized. Then again, I'm not flying domestically if at all until the TSA is disbanded - seeing as CATSA at least seems to have safety at a slightly higher priority than theatre - but phone calls are being made. In fact, I think I have the time for 29 phone calls.

I'm truly curious how the managements of these airports are fighting against this for the sake of customer service and safety.

I've thought about this too. Our 14-gate TLH is a massively under-utilized joke (737,685 passengers in 2009, down from 993,860 in 2006). Every time the City Commission is conned into another "revenue guarantee", the mayor is at the airport cutting a cake and (during the 6-month TLH-JFK fiasco) wearing a foam Statue of Liberty hat and dancing to "New York, New York"--the current thing is trying to tell passengers what awaits them at their massively overpriced direct flight to DFW. Knowing how they operate things there, the City Commission is probably welcoming the NoS with open arms as the "next step in aviation security".

This NoS deployment, of course, _will_ lead to passengers being sexually assaulted by TSOs, and I'd love to see how the local media will handle this, especially if (when) it happens to a prominent local, such as a local elected official (or their spouse). Due to TLH's extremely low passenger volume, the TSOs will be able to "take their time" on the gropings. I guess time will tell if the local cop stationed at the airport will join in on the fun.

This truly is my flying endgame. I'm not interested in being groped by one TSO while another one steals from my carry-on bag.

The only saving grace from my flying endgame would be a "trusted" traveler program that lets you skip the NoS. Of course, with WTMDs and HHMDs being eliminated, I don't see what the real benefit of any "trusted" traveler program would be--possibly a shorter line.

I expect no satisfaction, but I have sent a complaint to FNT "management" about the upcoming NoSs coming there. I expect a reply similar to what I got from DTW "management" back in November 2010 -- "go pound sand".

I did mention this new "development" to another frequent flyer who often takes a FNT flight with me. This person's reply: "Well, that's the world we live in." My reply: "No, that's the people we elect to office!"

There putting them in my home airport at PIA. They just opened a new terminal this year and made the new security checkpoint area large enough to install these machines in the future. It didn't take long to decide to put them in. I'm not sure why they wouldn't install them in the first place since the new terminal opened a couple of months ago. There were a few comments in the local newspaper website's article and they were all negative. Luckily BMI is only an hour away and they don't have these scanners.

Here's a question. Has anyone ever done the following?

"I'll head out the day before on Greyhound and meet the rest of you at the airport so we can rent the car."

If you have done this, what sort of reactions do you get?

Since I just went public about this new pornotron rollout being my flying endgame, I have gotten some pretty sharp criticism. What's wrong with me? It's not a big deal! I have to man up and get over it!

Empathy is not a highly valued character trait these days.

For me, as long as my clients get the same or better level of service, I don't care what colleagues say.

Some people will simply never "get it" and that's ok. In the end only the clients matter.

I'm super excited that ALB is getting scanners. They rarely have more than one lane open, so probably no choice. Looks like I'll have to think about SYR or SWF now. Whoop.

Now here comes the big question: Who here has slept on a Greyhound bus and/or in Amtrak long-haul coach class? What's it like?

I'm looking to avoid flying from TLH to PHL. Up until 2005, I could do this all with Amtrak end-to-end, but Hurricane Katrina was used as an easy scapegoat to permanently suspend the Sunset Limited between New Orleans and Orlando.

I've slept in Amtrak long haul. If you're relatively short and can secure two seats to yourself it's fairly easy to sleep curled into a curl. The seat width and pitch are far better than an airplane.

Also, if you can generally sleep in a recliner, you're golden.
