FedSmith.com reports 89.7% avoid flying

A common comment that has popped up on these surveys and related articles we've posted on the subject says something like, "If you don't like the security process, then don't fly!" Apparently, that pretty well sums up what some people intend to do if the responses to these questions are any indication.
I fly more 2.3%
No change 8.0%
I avoid flying whenever possible 89.7%

Do you believe the TSA-required enhanced screening and pat-downs at airports make it safer for Americans to fly?
Yes 7.5%
No 77.0%
Not sure 15.5%

Do you feel more comfortable about the use of AIT machines in airports with the new privacy software?
Yes 45.9%
No 25.8%
I'll wait until I see it to decide 28.3%

Will the use of the new software make you more likely to fly in the future?
Yes 37.8%
No 62.2%

Yes, we ARE!

Seems to contradict the polls that the overwhelming majority of Americans approve of the use of AIT at airports.

Unless, of course, the "yes I approve" group includes a large number of "I don't care, because I don't fly" answers.

If 89% of people aren't flying, why are my flights so full? :p

On smaller aircraft.

It's true, web polls are not usually scientific.
Even the national polls, which I have not seen for a while, were problematic in the limited nature of the questions, though they were more accurate as far as representing the population. No doubt scanners have received a bump in popularity from the recent round of news on ATR. If they are going to ask about it on an opinion poll I hope the just find an approval rating for TSA as a whole.

Except when they support TSA's position, in which case they're unassailable. :)

+1

Be thankful they aren't or you'd have to stick yourself in the overhead bin.

A decade ago, United was flying hourly 747s from ORD to DEN.

I just checked their website and found that their ORD to DEN flights are no longer hourly, no longer on 747s (737s and 757s now) and are no longer being flown by just one airline (United's website lists Continental flights).

A decade ago, Delta's frequent-flier program was about encouraging more airtravel.... nowadays it is solely an Amex marketing program.
