Secondary checks WHY?

Once again this week one of my flights was delayed and part of the reason... the Thousands Standing Around were doing a "secondary" screening for a flight from ATL to Chicago.

As far as I can tell this proves (a) that I did not lose my ID between the first time they looked at it and the second time and (b) that the primary screening is useless.... Am I missing something?

(If the primary screening was effective and if everything in the airport is "screened" then how could I have gotten "dangerous" items??? )

Option three is that it's just a jobs program. It took 4 agents....

These are the Layerz of Security™, making you feel nice and warm like a big fuzzy blanket. :p

A big wet blanket... dyed orange to represent heightened security, emblazoned with the words Do-You-Want-To-Fly-Today in several languages including texting.

Perhaps it was out of an Abundance of Caution®

TSA:td::td::td:

It is TSA's way of keeping the terrorists at bay by not doing the same thing the same way every hour of every day. Yet TSA allows the flying public to back up at the understaffed CPs to the point where passengers miss their flights. :td:

Hey, Cholula, can we add AOC to the glossary?:p

Abundance of Caution... as if 1 in 17,000,000 isn't low enough risk, lets check your wallet to make absolutely sure...

This is what happens when you put scumbags "in charge" of security.

Boggie Dog Aug 19, 2010 3:24 pm

I would suggest that the "TSA scumbags" have no real concept of security and are just grasping at straws while trying to convince each other that they are providing something, just something other than security.

TSA is the biggest government boondoggle ever envisioned.

You're being far too kind.

TSA is the worst thing that ever happened to airports and airlines, 9/11 included. I hope that there are serious repercussions against the scumbags who brought this disgusting, un-American agency into being, against the scumbags who were/are "in charge" of this disgusting, un-American agency, and that anyone who accepted a paycheck from this disgusting, un-American agency be seriously questioned/banned when it comes to future employment.

I particularly loathe how TSA's utter chicanery is influencing security operations internationally. Saw a WBI being installed at YEG domestic, for f**ks sakes. Also, thank you Canada for the $25.91 Air Traveler Security Charge to finance this garbage.

And TSA can only be abolished by the will of congress, who wouldn't dare appear 'soft on terrorism'. So it's here to stay. ARRRRGGGGHH

Apologies for the slight detour, I am particularly enraged by this nonsense today.

OP, let me say again to you that I am very, very sorry.... you were right, I was wrong.

The sad reality is that it doesn't need to be this way - I have been enjoying my intra-Europe flights recently again in contrast to the way that TSA operates. But there is so much arrogance surrounding airport security, and patriotism and/or irrational fear seems to be getting in the way of critical thinking.

How about that pesky matter of demanding information about flyover passengers who are not even landing in the US??

If Thousands Screening Again was real security, they would be doing it right the first time with fewer people.

TSA is the Snuggie™ of the US gov't. Embarrassing and unnecessary, but conveys a vague feeling of comfort to the masses. If only TSA cost $19.95 and could be returned for a full refund if you're not completely satisfied. ;)
