He's been stopped several times at "internal" border checks. He refuses to produce ID, answer questions, etc. As crazy as he may come across in other areas, he's right on the mark when it comes to the stops and searches. He was charged, after an insane exchange, with “obstructing the highway” and “resisting an order directing, regulating, or controlling a motor vehicle”.

He was not obstructing the highway by choice. Border Patrol would not allow him to leave. He didn't refuse the orders of a peace officer because border patrol are not considered peace officers. Thus both charges were dropped. During the incident, he was assaulted by border patrol (beaten and tazed).

Some info can be found here: http://educate-yourself.org/cn/pasto...l16aug10.shtml

This was not his first run in with border patrol and likely won't be his last. He is known to them now.

Part of the trial are on youtube as well as video of his run-ins. He tends to have the video running whenever he's stopped. Here are a couple of links:

Warning - these are pretty gruesome (his arrest):

The full trial is on youtube.

They also tried to limit his ability to move from state to state:

Another run-in:

He had an interesting conversation here with an officer:

Best of luck with your case!
I agree 100% that Pastor Anderson is a certified right wing, intolerant religious nut job. And also 100% agree that he was spot on in taking on the border patrol, and did so in a very balanced, reasonable, and at the same time courageous manner. I also have no doubt that the strength he derives from his sincere and deep religious faith was one of the things that gave him the moral courage to do this.

But the other thing he and Phil have in common is that I donated to both of their defence funds. These two couldn't be more different, and hence my hopes for the future of the US rest on the knowledge that two such people with almost nothing else in common have made a common enemy of tyranny. If this is not our salvation then I'm afraid there will be none.

Check out upper right hand corner:

Given inevitable increase in web traffic, the comments of this article are a good place to communicate TSA issues to a broad audience:

Wondering where the update is. Looks to be the same story from 12/10/10 and a Mucinex ad instead of the previous video.

I think the update is that it made the Drudge Report today. The link from the Drudge Report is to the old article, though.

Am I reading that right, or has it been on the Drudge Report "above the fold" all along?

I look at Drudge fairly often and had not seen the link prior to today.

Doesn't quite address the point I was making. Here's the verbatim link:

UPDATE: Man faces charges for defying TSA agents...

I want to know what info Drudge is actually updating for his readers. Inserting the word 'UPDATE' into the link text implies the news story has been updated, which of course it hasn't. If the item is new to Drudge's readers then it's not an update at all, just a linguistic play to grab the reader's attention.

Yes, I'm bugged by that.

Back to the topic at hand. Good luck, Phil. ^

Uh-oh. I'm flying to ABQ this afternoon, but the "events" page on the Bernalillo County Court website says that Phil's trial is:

Bruce,

The Mocek case has been of interest to me too. The best source of up to date info has been

http://papersplease.org/wp/mocek/

I've been interested in Mr. Mocek's case because I'm interested in seeing local authorities question the veracity and legitimacy of TSA requests for "backup".

I know police forces aren't perfect, but they've got more experience and better training than the average TSA goon. I don't like the idea of professional policemen acting as "enforcers" for the TSA.

First the TSA violates people's rights, but claims it's legal for them to do so because they aren't sworn peace officers. Then they call in sworn peace officers to act as enforcers. Peace officers, I might add, who generally show better judgment than TSA employees do, yet apparently never question the veracity or legitimacy of the TSA's complaints against citizens.

To me, local police forces acting as enforcers for TSA goons is a huge step backward for civil liberties. I hope the Mocek case is resolved in a way that speaks to that.

Good luck getting information. It is my opinion that the local DA fervently hopes we'll forget about this case. It seems to me that the delaying tactics are an effort to affect that.

Please report any information you come up with to the rest of us. The longer I think about the Mocek's case, the more promising I think it might be. Do keep us posted.

Our prayers and general positive vibes are speeding their way through the ether to Albuquerque, it's courthouse and you and your legal team. Good luck and Godspeed.
