Please record data points in a structured form in this wiki (in addition to posting to the thread):

Date of the offer [mm/dd/yyyy], the offer, how long you had the card and yearly spend)

__________________________________________________ _____________
Tips:

When you call, you MUST ask if there are any offers on your account. Don't ask for an AF waiver, ask if they can credit your account the $95 (or whatever your AF is) to your account. They cannot remove the AF, but they can credit an amount to offset it. If you cancel your card within 30 days of receiving retention bonus, then Chase may claw back that bonus Note that Chase has shortened the period in which you can close the card and get the fee refunded. It is 30 days for most (or all?) cards.

If you don't get a retention bonus, the card you are holding may have the option of a downgrade. Cards that are downgraded may be upgraded at a later date. For example a no-fee Sapphire product exists for downgrade which is not available to new applicants. Consolidated discussion of that topic is here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase...16-onward.html

If you have Ultimate Rewards points in the account you're calling about, try transferring them to another account before calling. For example, if you will ask for a retention on your Sapphire card, transfer the points to your Freedom card in advance.

The archived 2020 edition is here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chas...-archived.html

Didn't get any offers on my United Quest. Guess the algorithm didn't like me! Downgraded to some non-annual fee UA card.

NO retention offer on my Chase Sapphire Reserve so I cancelled it. I got my AF back soon after I canceled the card.

I waited for 10 days to apply for CSP (to get a sign up bonus) and transferred my UR points from CSR to CSP.

Did you PC? Or actually cancel?

PC = product change, i.e. changing/downgrading the CSR to a no fee Freedom card.

No, just canceled then applied a new one to get a welcome bonus since I've had CSR for more than 4 yrs.

I think the reason the OP asked this question is because it was previously believed that you need to wait like a month to apply for a new Sapphire card after canceling one, but if you do a PC then you only need to wait a few days (don't recall exactly how many) so that's what most people were doing when they became eligible for a new SUB on a Sapphire card.

Now your data point shows that you don't necessarily need to wait a month to apply for a new card after canceling.

Interesting... I asked this question to a few Chase reps before doing this and most of them told me that I could apply immediately after I cancel my CSR (so I could get a welcome bonus). One of them though said I should wait at least 1 to 2 weeks to apply, but I did it in 10 days after canceling my CSR. Now my CSP account shows "Your new account bonus" meter.

Yeah, before doing this I was also trying to re-apply for the same cards (CSR=>CSR and Personal Hyatt=>Personal Hyatt), but Chase people told me that I could apply for the same cards immediately after cancelling the current cards.
One person said to wait for 1-2 weeks before applying for the CSP. They told me to move my UR points somewhere within 30 days of canceling the CSR if I didn’t want to lose them, though.

Just called re: Sapphire Reserve. No retention offer, downgraded to Freedom (already have Freedom Unlimited) and will go for Sapphire Preferred when we have $4K in purchases lined up. It's a great card but $250/yr is too much, and I don't use Doordash or Peloton, barely use Lyft. Ah well.

Just a data point for anyone interested. Chase United Mileage Plus Explorer, no offer. Had card since 2017 for the bonus offer, used the UA Lounge certs a few times, but the last couple years they went to waste as on two occasions I was turned away from the lounge because it was full. Since my legacy UA card got converted to the Quest card, the additional award space was a duplicate benefit. No big loss to me. Agent on the phone was quick to get me off the line and close and hung before I could even say thanks. Will keep the Quest another years and reevaluate.

Has ANYONE been able to get a retention offer on CSR recently?

Also, help me remember, can I still get the new year's $300 travel credit and still get the full $550 AF refunded?

United quest

Just called rep and got $100 statement credit for Chase United Quest card, no spending requirement. Wasn't even transferred to loyalty department, the regular agent was able to do so.
Accept the offer and keep the card.
