Please record data points in a structured form in this wiki (in addition to posting to the thread):

Date of the offer [mm/dd/yyyy], the offer, how long you had the card and yearly spend)

__________________________________________________ _____________
Tips:

When you call, you MUST ask if there are any offers on your account. Don't ask for an AF waiver, ask if they can credit your account the $95 (or whatever your AF is) to your account. They cannot remove the AF, but they can credit an amount to offset it. If you cancel your card within 30 days of receiving retention bonus, then Chase may claw back that bonus Note that Chase has shortened the period in which you can close the card and get the fee refunded. It is 30 days for most (or all?) cards.

If you don't get a retention bonus, the card you are holding may have the option of a downgrade. Cards that are downgraded may be upgraded at a later date. For example a no-fee Sapphire product exists for downgrade which is not available to new applicants. Consolidated discussion of that topic is here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase...16-onward.html

If you have Ultimate Rewards points in the account you're calling about, try transferring them to another account before calling. For example, if you will ask for a retention on your Sapphire card, transfer the points to your Freedom card in advance.

The archived 2020 edition is here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chas...-archived.html

Tried one last time for a retention offer on my CSR I have held for 5 years, but was denied again. But since I was able to utilize the $300 travel credit for December on my CSR (I am still on the old calendar year system that starts post December bill), I did the PC to Freedom Flex. Chase does provide really good phone support. Person took care of the PC efficiently and nicely. Now to wait 4 days to apply for new CSR to get the SUB and another year of Lyft Pink. I am still considering moving to Venture X instead, but the effectively 4.5% on all travel is just so nice (3 points per dollar times 1.5 dollars cash back per point).

$150 statement credit offer on an old Ritz card. Seems like a common offer. Took it, as I get enough value out of the effective $300 annual fee.

Presidential Plus MC:

Annual fee hit this month. Called for retention bonus and got a $100 statement credit offer.

Same offer I've received for the past few years. I asked about miles-for-spend bonus, but rep said nothing else available, so I took the offer.

I'm still not really sure why I'm hanging on to this card.

+1 if anyone's counting for the legacy club card, which I've had ever since it became available. Never had a retention offer at all. Am United 1k via spouse so never used those benefits. Haven't flown for 2 years thanks to COVID. Called for a retention offer on the card since it was switched to the other card, and I wasn't using the benefits. After more than a decade and no prior retentions, was offered a miserly $100 by a customer service person with an attitude. Closed the card. What's up with Chase sending me multiple offers for new cards but doesn't want to keep a loyal customer? Average 25k spend per year on this card.

Just called Chase and told the rep straight up that I wanted to cancel or PC my CSR and wanted to check if I had any retention offers. To my surprise she had a $250 statement credit with no spend so I took that right away. Had account open for >5yr, opened it when it first launched with the 100k offer and had fairly high spend pre-covid and "decent" during covid (a lot of restaurant/delivery still lol)

I tried for a retention last year after seeing DoC posts about it and was denied, so this was a happy surprise!

In response to people cancelling CSR assuming they will just get Venture X.

Not everyone get approved for Venture X, FYI. Seems to be hit and miss.

Spent $26k (non-MS spend) on my CIP. Annual fee posted on Jan 2nd, called today and asked for a credit for the AF. Didn't offer me anything sadly. This is my 3rd year having the card.

I'm guessing that means the 35k certificate isn't worth at least $75 to you. I'd take this retention offer as I can find more value th8at that just from the certificate and sometimes this card has good Amex offers on it.
