Please record data points in a structured form in this wiki (in addition to posting to the thread):

Date of the offer [mm/dd/yyyy], the offer, how long you had the card and yearly spend)

__________________________________________________ _____________
Tips:

When you call, you MUST ask if there are any offers on your account. Don't ask for an AF waiver, ask if they can credit your account the $95 (or whatever your AF is) to your account. They cannot remove the AF, but they can credit an amount to offset it. If you cancel your card within 30 days of receiving retention bonus, then Chase may claw back that bonus Note that Chase has shortened the period in which you can close the card and get the fee refunded. It is 30 days for most (or all?) cards.

If you don't get a retention bonus, the card you are holding may have the option of a downgrade. Cards that are downgraded may be upgraded at a later date. For example a no-fee Sapphire product exists for downgrade which is not available to new applicants. Consolidated discussion of that topic is here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase...16-onward.html

If you have Ultimate Rewards points in the account you're calling about, try transferring them to another account before calling. For example, if you will ask for a retention on your Sapphire card, transfer the points to your Freedom card in advance.

Marriott Boundless. No longer use the card and find it difficult to use the FNA but have had the card for 15 years or so. Was going to downgrade to the Bold to maintain the credit but offered $100 statement credit free and clear.

Data Point:
8/25/2021
$250 statement credit, accepted
I called just to ask how long ago I received the CSR points bonus so I could know when I'd be eligible for the CSP 100k bonus. I told her that, and said it was not longer on the website. I wasn't trying to cancel. She told me I'm eligible for CSP and proactively said she would give me a $250 statement credit with no requirements.

Question: There were no terms or rules given to me. Can I still cancel the CSR, or would that cause to the retention bonus to be clawed back? I do want to downgrade to CSP, and not sure how long that offer will be around. Thanks.

If you mean the free Sapphire card, be aware that this will make you ineligible to open a Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve account.

Called in regarding UA MileagePlus, no offer. Specifically asked for retention. I wanted to cancel in February 2021 when my annual fee was due but I had two United Flights that I used the card for (free bags) so decided to keep it...but then the United flights cancelled and I booked with AA. So my data point is a bit strange since its mid-year, not at/around renewal. Downgraded to the Gateway card to keep access to improved UA award availability.

Did they prorate the AF? If not why wouldn't you wait until the AF posts again in Feb?

Anyone here, who has received $250 credit last year and was offered another credit in 2021 after AF posted?
Got one last year in Dec 2020, AF just posted. Going to try my luck.

Update: Denied, no retnetion offer. Will keep the card as have 3K worth of points on it.
