Changing statement closing dates with Chase?
Is it possible to change the statement closing date to any day in the month? My current statement cycle ends on the 14th of every month. I would prefer to set it to the 31st of each month. This month's billing cycle have $0 as I'm now using the card. Is it possible to change the date for this upcoming cycle?

Chase allows you to choose the Due Date, which determines the Closing Date. There is no need to call, this can be done online. Personal and Business cards have different offsets between Closing Date and Due Date. I have our personal cards set with Due Date of the 28th, and our Business cards set with a Due Date of the 25th. This causes all of the cards to Close on the 3rd. This reliably picks up all transactions from previous calendar month.
You can only choose a Due Date 1 - 28. (29, 30, 31 are invalid).

Not sure I understand why having a closing date of the third picking up all of the transactions is ideal for you?

I too prefer to have statements that specify activity for a calendar month, I’ve long had ALL my credit cards cycle/bill/closing date/statement date on the second (2nd) of the month. (Although occasionally a charge on the 1st of the month will move from “pending” more quickly than the usual 2 days and end up being included on the next day’s statement.) Don’t care about due dates, I always pay my balance(s) in full, usually on the 1st so that the balance(s) reported to the credit bureaus will be low (or zero).
Billing date of the 2nd always involves a call after new account approval to change the billing date. As mia mentioned, Chase (and some other issuers) set the Due Date which determines the Billing/Closing/Statement/Cycle Date. Sometimes it’s an effort to get the agent to understand what I’d like to accomplish. During the past few months, with 4 new Chase cards and a goal to receive all bonuses before Dec 31st (thus preferring a closing date near the end of December for some of those cards), I confused myself regarding billing dates. For 2 cards (1 personal and 1 business) I ended up calling Chase several times within a few weeks, each time asking to change the billing date. I specifically asked one apparently savvy agent if making multiple calls to change billing dates is one of the things that brings unwanted attention to one’s account, FWIW he said “not at all”. I seem to recall that Chase (or maybe another issuer) would only allow changing the billing date once every 6 months, that does not appear to be true for Chase right now. (I also periodically ask an agent, when calling for some other reason, if paying balances in full or even a few dollars more (ONCE a month without cycling credit limit) a day or two BEFORE the billing date brings unwanted attention to one’s account, FWIW I’ve always been told “no”.) |
Yeah, everybody has their own preferences for closing date. I have mine all close the 25th, so I can pay my bills before my monthly paycheck deposits.

Before I proceed to change the due date, if I make the change this month, will it reflect on this statement? The current statement hasn't closed yet. My current statement is showing $0 because I haven't been traveling so I haven't used the card. The statement closing date is the 27th. The due date is the 24th.

Any suggestion on when to change closing date? My cards close on 1st and 2nd of the which means any charges on the 1st get swept onto current bill and any
credit card promos don't go out to the 31st but 1st/2nd. Ideally, I'd like charges on the 1st/2nd to go to next bill and promos allow me to the latest at the end of month to qualify. Appreciate your suggestions. Can you also direct me how to change this online? Many thanks! |

Probably asked here before, but...just opened a chase bonvoy card. I've met the min spend and would like to close the statement asap to get the bonus. The system won't let me change payment due date online. Anything I can do?

On my new CSP, the site says payments due the 17th of the month, so I expect the first statement will close 7/20, meeting the $4K spending for a 100K point bonus. I'll plan virtually no use in the next month, then heavy travel use in the month and a half after 8/20. My general preference would be a closing date of the 12th (due the 9th): after 8/20, if I make that request, will I safely have the next statement close 10/12 rather than 9/12? Or should I make the request between 9/12 and 9/20? I'll be overseas and worry about remembering it. I have a vague memory from some years back that I asked for the change the day before the new target, expecting it to take effect the next month, and instead the statement closed right away giving a short statement period.
|
Not having gotten an answer here, once the statement period starting 8/20 was under way, I sent a secure message. The first reply didn't answer the main question of which month this statement would close after I requested a change. When I followed up, they said if I request it now (make new due date the 9th), the current statement would close 9/12. If this is right, does it look correct that I can put the date change request in after 9/12 and get that statement to close 10/12, due 11/9?
