With respect to the 6 x points at grocery stores through 31 July, does anyone know if foreign grocery stores count?

Chase/Marriott: 6x for groceries 5/1 - 7/31, max $5k

Email from Chase titled “Special Offer: Now earn 6x points at grocery stores”

With restrictions on travel limiting the ability to earn reward points for stays, we are increasing the number of points you will earn on grocery store purchases to help you keep earning toward your next vacation.

From May 1 through July 31, 2020, you'll earn a total of 6X Points on up to $5,000 spent at grocery stores with your Marriott Bonvoy™ Card.1 No enrollment or activation required. We will travel again. Until then, stay safe, stay healthy.

fine print:

You will earn a total of 6 points for each $1 spent on up to $5,000 in total purchases made in the grocery store category from 5/1/20 to 7/31/20. For Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™, Marriott Bonvoy™ Premier Plus Business, and The Ritz- Carlton™ Credit Cardmembers that's 4 points on top of the 2 points you already earn on grocery purchases with your card. For Marriott Bonvoy Bold™, Marriott Bonvoy™, Marriott Bonvoy™ Premier, and Marriott Bonvoy Business™ Credit Cardmembers that's 5 points on top of the 1 point you already earn on grocery purchases with your card. Merchants who accept Visa/Mastercard credit cards are assigned a merchant code, which is determined by the merchant or its processor in accordance with Visa/Mastercard procedures based on the kinds of products and services they primarily sell. We group similar merchant codes into categories for purposes of making rewards offers to you. Please note: We make every effort to include all relevant merchant codes in our rewards categories. However, even though a merchant or some of the items that it sells may appear to fit within a rewards category, the merchant may not have a merchant code in that category. When this occurs, purchases with that merchant won't qualify for rewards offers on purchases in that category. Purchases submitted by you, an authorized user, or the merchant through third-party payment accounts, mobile or wireless card readers, online or mobile digital wallets, or similar technology will not qualify in a rewards category if the technology is not set up to process the purchase in that rewards category. For more information about Chase rewards categories, chase.com/RewardsCategoryFAQs. Purchases posted to your account with a transaction date during the offer period are eligible for this offer. Delays by the merchant, such as shipping, could extend the transaction date beyond the offer period. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks after qualifying purchases post to your account for points to post to your account. ("Purchases" do not include balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.) To qualify for this bonus offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment. This bonus offer is non-transferable and applies only to the account ending in the last 4 digits referenced in this offer.

The terms do not specify USA-only, but there is this standard language which may apply if merchants in other countries have chosen different codes:

We make every effort to include all relevant merchant codes in our rewards categories. However, even though a merchant or some of the items that it sells may appear to fit within a rewards category, the merchant may not have a merchant code in that category. When this occurs, purchases with that merchant won't qualify for rewards offers on purchases in that category

According to DoC, it also is available on Amex cards:

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chase...-in-purchases/

Update: This offer is actually available on all Chase and American ExpressMarriott cards, and including the Ritz card. The only card not eligible is the currently-available AMEX Marriott business card), according to what FM was told by Marriott.

This is a nice gesture during the corona virus pandemic, since we aren't traveling to receive our points. However, with the Freedom card earnng 5 points per $ on groceries through June 30, I have to weigh what is more valuable, 5 UA Miles or 6 MR points. The UA miles win. Of course, during July, I could still do some grocery spend with my Marriott card for some extra Marriott points.

Probably not, based on the Chase Freedom list: https://creditcards.chase.com/freedo...ards/merchants

My grocery card is currently the Amex Everyday card. But I will shift a bit of spend to my Marriott card to bump my balance up to a level that lets me redeem an award night. I rarely stay at Marriotts in the Boyvoyed age and thus don’t acquire a lot of points anymore.

Yeah, right now I am not valuing Bonvoy points very highly although I do expect hotels to drop categories due to the demand changes.

I expect foreign grocery stores should count if coded correctly. The problem is many stores overseas are not classified as groceries because they tend to sell a variety of stuff or the groceries are in the basement.

However, the basement grocery cashiers at M&S did classify as grocery stores while the tills in the department store part did not. I guess you could drag your upstairs cart downstairs and pay for them at the grocery store side.

I read from a forum that CSR earns 5 points per grocery purchase starting from May 1st... is it true? If yes, that is really really good!

Does anyone have experience with Amazon Fresh / Whole Foods / Prime Now with Chase cards? Does it code as groceries? (Whole Foods via Amazon did on my Amex Gold.)

Doctor of Credit has the same info and a list of their cards that also receive bonus points. Apparently capped at $1500/month

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chase...rocery-stores/

I have only received the email for the Marriott card, not for any of my other Chase cards.

To answer my own question - the Freedom merchant list clearly includes Amazon Fresh.

Correct, but there is still a problem with the merchant coding in some markets. Read HERE.

So what. Chase Freedom already earns 5x per grocery spend and does NOT levy an annual fee.
