THIS IS THE 2020 EDITION OF THE RETENTION OFFER THREAD.
THE THREAD IS NOW ARCHIVED.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE DISCUSSION HERE:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase-ultimate-rewards/2031754-chase-retention-offers-2021-a.html
Please give us the following data:
Current retention offers (specify the date [mm/dd/yyyy], the card, the offer, how long you had the card and yearly spend)
When you call, you MUST ask if there are any offers on your account. Don't ask for an AF waiver, ask if they can credit your account the $95 (or whatever your AF is) to your account. They cannot remove the AF, but they can credit an amount to offset it. If you cancel your card within 30 days of receiving retention bonus, then Chase may claw back that bonus Note that Chase has shortened the period in which you can close the card and get the fee refunded. It is 30 days for most (or all?) cards.
If you don't get a retention bonus, the card you are holding may have the option of a downgrade. Cards that are downgraded may be upgraded at a later date. Consolidated discussion of that topic is here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase...16-onward.html
The archived 2019 edition is here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chas...rs-2019-a.html

Marriott $90, Hyatt $0
Called today. Front-line rep offered $90 statement credit on my Marriott card whose $85 annual fee was billed earlier this month, but no credit for my Hyatt card whose $75 fee also hit earlier in the month. I may call tomorrow earlier in the day and try for retentions on that one.

United Club Card
$450 annual fee billed June 1. Offered $100 statement credit and ability to redeem 23,333 United Miles to offset the remaining $350.
To my knowledge, this is one of the last cards with Price Protection and it has been useful when buying high ticket items like TVs, etc. With the United Clubs closed, price protection is the only useful card benefit. Any thoughts on keeping it versus canceling and opening a Club Infinite Card with sign-up bonus once travel returns to normal?

I would be surprised if Chase offered anything on the $75 annual fee Hyatt card. Chase has bombarded me with offers to "upgrade" to the $95 annual fee Hyatt card, so I wouldn't expect any offers to keep what Chase wants me (and I assume you) to give up. Has anyone received a retention offer on the $75 card since the $95 card came out?

United Chase Explorer card - had for >5 years with annual spend >$25K. Was charged the $95 annual fee so called (first time) for a retention offer. Was offered 1.99% APR on purchases made for the next 6 months. No other offers so canceled the card.

I did that a couple months back. I had $0 spend for a few years on it, though.

Chase World of Hyatt $95 with about $10k spend so far this year, no retention offers available.
Same for the Chase Marriott Business, with $0 spent on it since 2018, which was less surprising.

My (faulty) memory is that the $75 card earns 3 points per dollar of Hyatt spend and the $95 card earns 4 points per dollar of Hyatt spend, and that was the only change of interest to me.

Called 6/29/2020
Marriott Boundless card ($95 AF)
Have had card about 3 years, ~$25k annual spend pre-covid (zero the last 3 months)
No retention offer
Downgraded to Marriott Bold with zero AF. Because we were within 30 days, they credited the old AF back to me
Guess I will keep the Bold active for the elite night credits, but it is going in the sockdrawer as 3x MR points isn't compelling for spending

When I called (on the same card) I was offered nothing of value. 1.99% interest for 6 months. Of course I pay my balance in full every month, so this is useless to me. Probably stuck hanging on to it, because one never knows when the ability to get a night credit for every $3k in spend will be useful, but it is frustrating.
