Any Reason I Can't Reach my Signup Bonus Miles Threshold by Paying Taxes?

I just signed up for the United Explorer card, with a 50K bonus if I spend $3,000 in the first 3 months.

Is there any reason I can't meet this threshold by charging $3,000 worth of taxes?

You absolutely can meet the spend target on any credit card by paying taxes with it. But keep in mind the cost of the 2-3% convenience fee that is charged.

Actually, it is less than 2% for federal taxes depending upon the service used.
