In 2017, at the first renewal of the 2016 Chase Sapphire Reserve card,* no retention offers have been forthcoming. It appears that Chase is not offering retention bonuses on this card at this time, and will cancel the card at the cardholders request without further ado.
*A retention offer has been reported (though it's minimal): https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28917524-post376.html
Posts 333 and 327 discuss a fee credit issued by Chase when cancelling the card. These have been called both "Annual Fee Refund" and "Membership Fee Credit."
This thread discusses the timing of both cancelling and product changing (downgrading to Sapphire Preferred) in order to 1) Keep from paying the $450 annual fee, and 2) possibly get a 2018 $300 travel credit before cancelling.
The rules changed for the travel credit on cards issued in May 2017, making the travel credit a calendar year issuance rather than a Dec statement to Dec Statement issuance.
The nuances discussed within this thread include changing your billing date, fees posting on the 1st of the month, and the 30 day window to cancel/60 day window to product change.

CSR is advertising a lower points bonus because they got killed by those who took the 100k bonus and then cut and run.
Not only that they reported that fewer cardmembers than expected have been paying financing charges, which is a way that issuers make a lot of their money. That's not surprising at all because most churners don't carry balances.

Applied last August, cancel today 10/13. ~25k spend.
1) No fee waiver or fee credits credits offered
2) No ultimate reward "bonus" points offered
3) -
4) They offered to downgrade. My wife already has CSP so I'm going to cancel her's next month and I will apply for CSP - it's been 23 months since my last CSP bonus and I will have my wife apply for CSR.
BTW - my entire credit line was moved to my Freedom and Ink cards.

You would not even be able to get another Sapphire card even without bonus unless your previous Sapphire bonus was obtained more than 24 months ago.

I'm one of the people keeping the card. We have 3 of these in the family, and will keep 2 CSR's and downgrade one for the least active traveler in the family. I don't get enough benefit from the Sapphire Preferred to be worth the downgrade for only $50. It's just too easy to get the $300 travel credit on the CSR, with no hoops to jump through. The Priority Pass access is great once you're in the clubs, and, although this feature has disappointed me sometimes, it's still very useful when it works, which for us is about 80/20.

My wife called Thursday about retention just to see if they would do anything. It was a no go, but to down grade to CSP for less benefits just didn't make sense to us. We usually have the $300 back in the 1st month or 2. Most of our spend is on dining and travel so the extra 1 UR makes it a wash, and goes and PP are a plus.

Instead of keeping 2 CSR cards in the family isn't it better to downgrade 1 and add that person as AU to the other? It costs $75 instead of $150.

I called & downgraded within 60 days of the fee charged to Freedom card but the $450 fee is still not removed as promised and it is showing as due. I called today again and the supervisor says it can take 1 to 2 billing cycles to have the AF removed! Is this really true? takes 30 to 60 days?
I told her to write me a letter saying the AF will be removed and there will be no late or interest fee on the AF that is still showing as due and I wrote her name!
I canceled because even though the card itself is good the travel benefit dept (eclaimsline) is a total fraud and Chase Execs refused to help me! I didn't have time to take them to court for $200 travel cancelation reimbursement but I promised myself to shut down the card when fee comes.

...but don't take it from me since I downgraded Ms Ekeko's to Chase Freedom while retaining my CSR.
