Chase Ink Business Preferred (2016 - 2020 ARCHIVED)

Sorry no link, saw it on the terminal. Per Bloomberg, it's coming out later this year with 80,000 and 3x on travel first 150k.

Business owners earn 3 points a dollar for the first $150,000 spent on travel, telecommunications, shipping and advertising on social-media and search engines.
No 5x at office supply stores.

Business owners earn 3 points a dollar for the first $150,000 spent on travel, telecommunications, shipping and advertising on social-media and search engines. Purchases after that limit or in other categories earn 1 point per dollar.
Three points points per dollar ties in with this...

...and notably absent is the valuable Office Supplies category which is the gateway to category shifting via gift cards.

The Chase Ink Business Preferred card’s signing bonus kicks in after users spend $5,000 within the first three months, said Codispoti, who spent almost 12 years at American Express before joining JPMorgan in 2014. The $95 annual fee is waived for the first year.
It seems odd that the annual fee is the same as INK Plus.

That's apples to oranges. The 3x and 5x points offered aren't for the same categories.

Where they are the same, 3x is an improvement, as it's not just hotels (Ink Plus) or restaurants (Ink Cash). Additionally, the limits are much higher, moving from 50k for Ink Plus to 150k on Ink Preferred.

The comparison for office supplies is much worse for Ink Preferred, since there's no category noted for it, i.e. 1x. But that isn't the whole story, obviously.

Current Ink cards are very good, 5x! sapphire reserve also has 3x on travel. So what is left? ads, good for your blogger, who else? 3x is terrible. cards every where give 3x.

The new card’s $150,000 limit for triple points means higher potential rewards than JPMorgan’s existing small business cards, Ink Plus and Ink Cash, as well as competitor offerings including the AmEx Business Gold Rewards charge card. That comes with a 25,000 point signing bonus and triple points in one of five categories on the first $100,000 in purchases.
The Bloomberg comparison with American Express Business Gold Rewards is inaccurate.

The public offer for American Express Business Rewards Gold is 50,000 points.

The American Express rewards are capped at $100,000 spend in each category.

With your Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express, you get at least one Membership Rewards® point for each dollar you spend on your Card for eligible purchases. For the first $100,000 in eligible spending in each calendar year in each of the five categories specified below, you can get additional points, as follows: you can get: (1) 2 additional points (for a total of 3 points) in one category of your choice from the five categories specified below; and (2) 1 additional point (for a total of 2 points) in the remaining four categories. The five categories are: (1) airfare on a scheduled flight charged directly with passenger airlines (charter flights and private jet flights are excluded); (2) advertising purchased in the U.S. to promote your business online, on television, or on the radio; (3) gasoline at gas stations located in the U.S. (superstores, supermarkets and warehouse clubs that sell gasoline are not considered gas stations); (4) shipping services purchased in the U.S. for courier, postal, and freight; and (5) computer hardware, software, and cloud computing purchases in the U.S. made directly from select providers. (The current list of select computer hardware, software, and cloud computing providers is available at: americanexpress.com/rewards-info.) Eligible purchases in excess of $100,000 in the applicable category in a calendar year will receive only one point for each dollar spent on eligible purchases.

Ads are good for anyone that uses Facebook, Adwords, or any other Internet-based advertising. It's disingenuous to assume it's just bloggers.

The travel at 3x does match other cards, but it's still an improvement over the Ink Plus and Ink Cash. Putting your statement in bold doesn't change that.

The cell phone coverage ($600) is a nice benefit.

You're right people will use the other categories, but office stores was a huge spend for many especially in the realm of prepaid cards. With half of the benefits just overlapping with CSR, there will be very little reason to hold onto the card other than to just churn the reward and PC.

Unless you actually own a business with employees and expenses etc.
