Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit
How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.
For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.
But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.
Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.
Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.
Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.

I'm planning to downgrade the CSR to Chase Freedom at the end of the month. I've already received my $300 travel for this year. For travel and dining purchases between now and the time I downgrade, would those transactions still earn the 3% CB?

When I product-changed Sapphire Preferred to Freedom Unlimited, all purchases from the close of the preceding statement earned 1.5 points per dollar.

Any travel/dining purchases that have already posted when you downgrade should earn the 3x UR. In addition, all of your gas station, drug store and tolls will earn 5x UR retroactively once you downgrade to Freedom and activate for the current quarter.

Looks like San Diego changed the merchant coding for their parking meters; the UR portal seems to show a pending travel credit from when I used one the other day. (Previously they coded as something else and didn't count for the 3x points/travel credit; I used my CFU for those as a result.) Updated the wiki to reflect this.

I expected that the Hoover Dam Visitor Center would not code as travel, so I used a Freedom Unlimited card. When I looked at the details of the charge on the web site, it said Travel.
I did not update the wiki because I don't know that would have coded as travel for SR. Perhaps someone with an upcoming visit could try it...and report.

I understand a Japan Rail Pass will trigger the credit, but what about say reloading mobile Suica inside Apple Pay or buying tickets at a JR Midori no Madoguchi (I.e. not ticket machine)?

That means anything you can buy using Suica is 3% ultimate rewards.

Does anyone have experience with getting airline club memberships reimbursed? With the recent United mileage devaluation, I'm looking to switch from the United Club Card to something more useful. That said, I spend a lot of time in United Clubs and would like to keep the membership. Putting $300 toward that would be great as my cash outlay would only be an additional $150. Thanks!

I assume that anyone on this web site won’t have any problem spending $300 on travel in a very short period of time. Thus, spending your Chase $300 annual travel allowance on your United Club membership wont actually save you $300......it just means you will have to spend $300 more of your own money on other travel costs.
Huh? It doesn't matter whether the travel credit is used for item (a) or item (b). The net result is the same.

That is precisely my point. Being able to spend the travel allowance on United Club fees doesn’t save anyone any money.....unless they have no other travel expenses for the entire year.

I think, phrased differently, the point is that you shouldn't buy anything you wouldn't have bought anyway without the credit, because then you haven't actually saved the $300, you've bought something extra.
Or phrased yet another way, you shouldn't think of the credit as offsetting any one specific purchase or purchases but rather a $300 rebate on all of your travel spend over the year.
