Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit

How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.

For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.

But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.

Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.

Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.

Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.

a gift shop purchase of beer at the Mirage in Las Vegas actually coded as travel too. Suppose if it is at the hotel owned shop then it works, the charge was from "The Mirage Hotel". pretty cool!

DP from Hawaii

I have a few DP from a recent trip to Kona, Hawaii out of DFW (thx to the wife's CSR), with airport locations noted where appropriate:
  1. Park N Fly parking (DFW) = Travel
  2. Hudson News (LAX) = Not Travel
  3. Gift Shop (KOA) = Not Travel
  4. Original Hawaiian Chocolate factory = Not Travel (or dining)

Travel credit triggered in full with Hilton timeshare payment.

A newbie question:
How do you know what category a charge is coded with Chase? I put a lot of spending with my Chase Freedom Unlimited so I have a huge pool of data. The problem is I don't see where to find if a charge is coded as travel-related. When I click on the detail of a transaction, all it says is if the transaction was made online or in-person and how much points I earned for that transaction (Which is 1.5% for all purchases so it does not help).

My statement closed. 5k spend.

$300 credit was NOT clawed back on WN fully refundable flight.

Interestingly, my statement shows no $450 annual fee charged either..

  1. Login to chase.com and choose the card account that you want to use.
  2. Things You Can Do > Go to Blueprint
  3. Click: See Spending
  4. I want to > See purchases in Categories
  5. Select Category: Travel
  6. Use the Spending for control to choose a Statement
...but really, the Travel category has many obvious merchants which you can choose based on the definition: Includes: Airlines; Hotels and Motels; Auto Rental; Cruise, Camping and Timeshare; Travel Agencies and Tours; Commuter Mass Transit (Local Buses, Trains, and Ferries), Tolls and Bridge Fees, Parking Lots, Garages, Taxis, and Limousines

Same with my first statement. I have the $300 credit but no charge for the $450.00. Quite frankly I wish the $450 would be on the same statement so I feel like this card is only costing me $150. If they put the charge on a future statement, will then feel like I am spending the $450!

KOA Gift Shop is unexpected. I would put that in the wiki (but I don't have permission yet).

Doesn't really surprise me that retail located within an airport wouldn't be travel.

It didn't surprise me either, but I thought I would take a chance. Was more surprised to see mention of a shop in LAS coded as travel.

That was a gift shop in a hotel. It might be a concession, but if operated by the hotel it would use the hotel's merchant account.

A gift shop in an airport is almost always a concession with its own merchant account, but if it were operated by the airport itself it would likely code as Government.

Really hard to know ahead of time.

FYI, the KOA gift shop codes as "Home Improvement and Landscaping". Seriously, at least according to Blueprint.

When did you open the card?

Chase usually charge the fee on the 1st of the month after you opened the card. If you opened it in September, you should not see it until October 1st.
