Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit

How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.

For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.

But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.

Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.

Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.

Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.

This is interesting. I received my 2016 travel credit in October. My statement ending date in the first of the month. I made a large travel purchase on 11/29, but it was in pending status until after 12/1 - so it will appear on the 1/1/17 statement. I have already received the $300 travel credit for 2017.

December Travel Credit

My wife finally got approved for the CSR. Third time's the charm. Her first stmt closing date is 1/27/17. We were concerned about getting the travel credit for 2016 and I found advice on Dan's Deals: "People have been reporting various due dates in January. If you get a due date between the 6th to the 25th then your bill will close between December 9th-28th and you will have time to spend the $300 in 2016 travel credit. It is definitely still possible to get those due dates, but there’s no guarantee. If you do apply then be sure to call reconsideration to see if you can get approved today. You may also be able to change your payment due date to generate a December statement if your due date is earlier than January 6 or later than January 25th. Just call to have you due date changed to January 25th to have your statement close on December 28th."

I was approved on December 2 and got a payment due date of January 26, which means the statement date is January 1. Asked Chase rep on phone about moving statement date up a few days into late December. They said that couldn't be done and they can only move the day later, not earlier.

Interesting.

Looks like the $300 travel credit isn't so much based on calendar year, but rather the month the statement will post.

I just had my statement close yesterday, 12/3, which means my next statement won't close till 1/3, and my $300 travel credit reset and I saw a $30 credit for a charge that posted on 12/3. I've already used up my $300 credit.

Also noticed that the $300 reset on the tracker within the UR site.

This is exactly how it works, as has been explained in the wiki and dozens of times in this thread and others. It's also explained in the terms and conditions you agreed to when you applied for the card.

Applied and got approved on Friday, statement date closing 1/1. Any recent successes changing that to December or am I screwed? I SMed asking and they said it would take a couple billing cycles to change. Going to try to call when I get the card.

Was going to apply this past weekend, but based on these responses it sounds better to wait. Do you all agree?

I feel your pain! Let us know if you have success with changing the date, as I think many people are in the same situation. I was unable to do change the closing date online for a 4 day old card, but it looks like 2 of our 3 pending travel purchases have been posted and reimbursed as 2016 expenses.

For the others- Did your tracker for the $300 reset, as Appleman's did?

Wait for what, specifically? The triple dip clock is running out, unless someone figures out a sure fire way to move the statement closing dates scheduled to close in January, back into December. It may still be possible, but I see that methods such as SM's and calls are having mixed results.

The responses that you quoted have to do with the travel reimbursement (yes, this is the proper thread for that topic). It is becoming less likely, with each passing day, that you will get a 2016, 2017 and 2018 travel credit for a 12 ( or 13) month tenure on a CSR card approved now. However, you will still get a double dip 2017 and 2018 credit, which will be an opportunity for all card applicants, between now and next November, when the triple dip opportunity will present itself again.

For more stats on getting approved for Chase cards, see the master "applying for" thread.

The credit posts at the same time the charges post, but the statement date will determine whether they are for 2016 or 2017. If they appear on the January statement the credits will apply to 2017 even though the charges were made in 2016.

What is your payment due date?

Changing the billing date is easy. Making that change effective on the current cycle has proven very difficult heretofore.

Has anyone attempted to purchase upgrades from AA with CSR? Curious if it codes as travel for my 2017 credit.

True, she said she changed it and it would be effective this statement, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Sadness.

Yes, exactly. So people need to allow a couple of extra days for the charges to POST, as opposed to the date they were charged. Meaning, if your statement close date is, say, Dec 15, don't wait until the 14th or 15th to make the charge and hope it reimburses in 2016. It won't.

A charge made so close to the statement closing date might well post after the statement closes, and be credited for 2017. Basically, unless you've got something you're waiting for, such as upcoming travel prior to the statement closing date, go ahead and top up your travel expenses now. There are lots of ways to "bank" that 2016 reimbursement, as seen in the Wiki above.
