Sapphire Reserve Annual Travel Credit

How are the dates calculated?
For cards issued prior to May 21, 2017 it was Reimbursed per Calendar year, not membership year. Purchases must be posted (not pending) by your December statement (dated any time Dec 1 through Dec 31) to be credited against current year's $300 credit. Any travel spend that posts after the December statement will credit against the next year's $300 credit.

For cards issued after May 21, 2017, it will be reimbursed by membership year.

But my 2nd annual fee is after May 21, 2017, why didn't my travel credit reset?
Because if you got your card before that date, your travel credit will continue to reset after your December statement.

Does the travel credit count as minimum spend?
Spend is spend, the credit is the credit. The $300 reimbursement is a separate item from spending requirements( the $300 reimbursement on travel, $100 Goes all count towards the $4,000 only the $450 yearly fee doesn't). You must spend $4000 for your signup bonus UR points. If part of that spend is categorized as travel, a credit will post to your account accordingly. They are separate items.

Even if you return a purchase after you've met your $4000 initial spend it will not count against your spend.

Can I get two travel credit fees if I apply in the middle of the year?
Not for applications after May 21, 2017.

Was the Fairmont Hotel's parking charged to the room or paid separately?

Paying with cash as shopping thru the UR portal has no difference as from other OTAs such as Expedia. Therefore the charge should earn both points AND qualify travel expense to trigger the credit.

Paid separately and appears as "parking" on CC statement. No different than municipal parking structure except for different treatment by Chase

It gets different treatment from Chase because the merchant isn't coded as travel. That's the merchant's fault, not Chase's.

PayByPhone parking app was credited. This was for an MBTA lot but I think other lots use it.

Can't rely on the description though. The MCC of the company that runs the parking facility may not be in the list of qualified codes. This is the hard part. I have plenty of purchases at grocery stores that despite having the right description, they do not earn any bonus on the AMEX cards because the MCC is not in the qualified list. I imagine your case is similar even it is Chase not AMEX but the mechanism is the same.

What is the reason you have not charged to the room? Is it the hotel policy? If so, that may explain why it does not trigger the credit.

Has anyone tried to purchase miles/points from UA or AA and been successful in getting the travel credit?

I have no expectations and I am not relying on anything - just posting FYI for the benefit of others. I was only visiting the hotel bar for 45m so not possible to charge to room Yes, $15 for 45 minutes on Nob Hill > 5 hours at city garage downtown Welcome to SF.

But you obviously were upset with your thumbs down ... If you dont have any expectation then this would not ever bother you... just sayin.

I'm not "upset" as I will easily hit $300 over the next 2 months - with or without a parking fee credit. I am simply pointing out inconsistent results from Chase which I think merits a

We all understand that the automated travel credit reimbursement is dependent on the merchant code applied to the transaction. However I think your average consumer (myself included) expects that similar transactions at similar merchants will be treated identically. If you get 3x credit for dining, it should not matter whether you dine at McDonald's or Del Friscos. Similarly, if you park in a garage and the merchant receipt displays parking fees, your average consumer would expect the charge to be treated similarly, regardless of who owns or operates the garage.

That's kind of the whole point of this thread - to give people a heads up about what fees are covered since the system used by Chase does not always reach a logical result. @:-)

SWA Gift Card purchased via SWA is a travel credit category

I couldn't find the answer here but I wanted to let everyone know that a SWA gift card purchased through SWA DOES count toward the travel credit. From what I read on SWA's site, it doesn't expire. Got my E-card immediately.

Totally agree but that is not something Chase can do about it hence it has put it in the T&Cs about how a transaction would be earning bonus is 100% depending on how the merchant IDENTIFIES itself and that is the MCC the merchant uses. Chase cannot enforce the merchants to code themselves correctly, nor does it want to manually adjust bonus earning on every call the unhappy customer calls in.

In fact Chase is being very consistent - the category of the spend is totally depending on how the merchant identifies itself by way of the MCC. It has been specified in the T&Cs. Period.

Your thumbs down should direct to the merchant, not Chase.

Southwest eGift card counted as Travel. Mine got credited the next day.

I purchased a local travel agency 3-day bus tour, and it is TOURIST ATTRACTIONS AND EXHIBITS, not Travel.

Does anyone know if booking cruise thru Costco Travel, or VacationsToGo.com count as Travel?

Anyone know if in-flight duty free items purchased, for example on Cathay Pacific would count as a travel item?

Also does anyone know when the $300 resets? I heard some say January 1, but the booklet says December statement closing date? So it could literally mean December 5, January 1, or January 5.

Confused. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.
