However, later the same day I also requested the credit by Secure Message (for "baggage fees) and it was approved. Very YMMV now but still doable. 2/10/2017
Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

For the first year is given upon approval of the card. From the second year on. when the spend kicks in, technically, it should happen at the end of the card year. As I had the status continuously (i.e., no break in years) I cannot tell you when it really kicks in.
My data point - my card year is end of August. The required spend for this year was completed around October last year. Technically I should have status only until 2019, with the next year kicking in August. When I've inquired about the status because of the change (frustration do not start to describe the inability of all involved to understand the changes and what they mean), I've been told I'm Gold until 2020 by Chase. Take it to mean whatever you wish. Personally, I still hope that is true, but won't be surprised if it is not.

How fast does the gold status post to your ritz account after you spend the $10k? Is it after the statement closes or is chase able to “send” the spend requirements quickly to Marriott? I’m asking because of the August 1st deadline and my statement just closed for this period. Thx

It was a response to a very long back and forth trying to nail them down (unsuccessfully) to tell me if my renewal date for Gold in August will become Platinum for 2020 or not. The whole notion of new Gold / old Gold and the difference in benefit is completely lost on them.

Can you get more than one RC card with the same SSN? I got the signon bonus 24 months ago and have still held on to mine.

I don't think I'm on the wrong thread. Why are you expecting to get an accurate assessment of your future Marriott status from a Chase CSR? Chase CSRs are not intimately familiar with Marriott's reward program, let alone the specifics of the changes occurring in August. You even noted in your post that you don't expect Chase's answer to be correct. Call Marriott to ask about your status.

You even noted in your post that you don't expect Chase's answer to be correct. Call Marriott to ask about your status.

I'd agree, especially since for the most part this merger has gone fairly smoothly and well communicated. This August 1 deadline however seems to either be too rushed, or that Marriott doesn't know yet either. I mean the fact that when I called Marriott and asked what my status would be next month and the agent could do nothing but repeat generic FAQs is frustrating.

I don't think I'm on the wrong thread. Why are you expecting to get an accurate assessment of your future Marriott status from a Chase CSR? Chase CSRs are not intimately familiar with Marriott's reward program, let alone the specifics of the changes occurring in August. You even noted in your post that you don't expect Chase's answer to be correct. Call Marriott to ask about your status.
Chase and I agreed that if I'll spend $10K a year, Chase will give me (through Marriott) the Gold status (with its benefit, not the shiny card). I have fulfilled my part and expect Chase to fulfil theirs. The way to get it done, is to get to someone who is empowered to make those decisions at Chase – and unfortunately the way to get there is through the CSR and escalation upwards. And BTW, I have asked the same question to the Marriot CSR and the answer was as helpful as the one from Chase (i.e, totally useless). I could ask the same question – why do you expect Marriot CSR to know anything about the benefits that comes through a Chase credit card? But on the other hand, it is not Marriott issue to resolve.
