However, later the same day I also requested the credit by Secure Message (for "baggage fees) and it was approved. Very YMMV now but still doable. 2/10/2017
Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

Using Visa Infinite airfare for AA Economy
Hello,
Hoping someone can tell me the answer to this - when booking an AA fare on visa infinite - any way to tell if it is Economy main cabin or Basic (crappy with no carryon or seat assignment) - price seems to be main but just don't want to get rooked.
thx

They'll tell you to call after you've spent $5000, and when you do tell them you heard from your 'friend' (I guess that would be me) that I told you about a better promotion and you'd like to be upgraded. They'll send an email to the marketing department and hopefully within a day you'll receive your 3rd certificate. You should get an email as confirmation. Good luck.

2 workarounds I can see:
- Check if these fares correspond to AA.com's BE fares
- On Matrix Airfare Search / ITA Software, open up the Advanced controls and enter the string "f bc=b" (no quotes) in the extension codes field for both the outbound and return flights. That will limit your results to only the BE fares and you can cross-reference them with the Visa Infinite results.

Keep in mind that the card needs to remain open through Dec if you want the annual 10% bonus.

Has anyone tried using the $300 airline fees benefit of this card for in-flight shopping? Specifically, on British Airways High Life "duty free" shop?

2016-09-01 year 1 $450 annual fee hit (appeared on 2nd statement, 2016-9-25)
Year 2 annual fee hasn't posted yet. I suspect it will be due on the 10-25 statment.

I'm entering Year 2 grandfathered into the $395 AF. The 2nd Year AF posted on time at $395. The benefits of this card makes paying a no-brainer for me, but will probably call for retention.

All this said, do let us know if they are actually doing retention!
