However, later the same day I also requested the credit by Secure Message (for "baggage fees) and it was approved. Very YMMV now but still doable. 2/10/2017
Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

Thanks @Marriott Bonvoy Lurker II. Add me to the list of people downgraded to Gold. I applied for the Ritz card in June 2018. I inquired about a month ago with Marriott prior to making a large number of reservations and was told my Platinum Elite status was good through the end of 2019.

This is so weird! I did the same thing got the card near August or July I think. But I still have platinum elite. I hope to continue having it but this revelation bugs me cause I feel like I’m also going to lose it soon.

Back to Platinum on the web site but still Gold on the app. I won’t hold my breath till it is all set in all places. It might just be another IT glitch.
UPDATE: called to verify. In their system they see Gold.
I would not trust what I see on the website.
Marriott Lurker can you please provide an update?

Mine was showing plat website, gold app. It's now platinum in both, so I'm hoping this is indeed resolved. Years as platinum was also incremented.

Folks who have had their status reinstated back to Platinum, is there something specific to be done?
I would think best to let this "refresh" take its time in the database, but I'm not sure if there will be another round of updates after this one to correct the ones who do miss out.
FWIW, I've had the card for over 4 years and did spend over $10k before the 2018 cutoff date and was Platinum up until a few days ago... have over 15 nights already booked for 2019, so this being broken will be a big headache.

Glad to see the status restorations are rolling out! Really nice to see things be handled the right way. Mine isn't restored yet, but I'll probably need to just give it a little time.
Excellent job @Marriott Bonvoy Lurker II and Marriott!
