However, later the same day I also requested the credit by Secure Message (for "baggage fees) and it was approved. Very YMMV now but still doable. 2/10/2017

Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

There is no clear pattern in the downgrades, it is either some people slipping through the cracks, or it's just a matter of time...

With the ruckus being raised about this, I wouldn't be surprised if Marriott reverses course and reinstates Platinum status to those who suddenly lost it.
I got the card in July, didn’t spend 10k, was platinum elite, and am no longer platinum elite. I am hoping for the get too.

I can't explain it. I was expecting just the opposite.
You keep saying this but it still isn't clear to me because it makes no sense. The Marriott status year rolls over at the end of Feb. So why would Marriott/some rep tell you it ended at the end of January? I actually asked you in this post if you could confirm your status ended and never got a reply.

I don't care what the "Marriott system" says, since we can't actually see status expiry dates and most customer service reps are semi-morons, so what does your and your SO's Bonvoy phone app or website say your status is as of today? Gold or plat? Presumably it should be one or the other.

feasible, well very feasible if you aren’t opening up 5 other cards each year with minimum spend bonuses

The date of 1/31/2019 is also the date that Chase insisted the status is good for and they got it from contacting Marriott. That is probably the date that the internal systems in Marriott has. It only propagated to the live systems now. I would not be surprised if end of January will be the actual end of year from now on.

Not that feasible and definitely not worth it. If you cannot earn the needed nights by staying then you book the appropriate room (with lounge or breakfast) and still come a head.

Spending 75K for what other chains give you just for having a credit card does not make sense unless you have a very specific goal in mind (like life time years - but again if that is the case organic stays would do it).

Just checked and my status has been downgraded to Gold - I'm one of those RC cardholders who did the $10k/yr. spend

Puzzled why you still do not understand it. I said this three times.

If you do not believe or trust Marriott's system, then it is fine. This is how our status is recorded. It became true and this has been confirmed by several people.

The Marriott rep whom I spoke to was also puzzled when I called her in early February. She said the status should have been updated early February. But it did not happen until early March. Apparently Marriott continues to have IT issues.

Thanks @Marriott Bonvoy Lurker II. Add me to the list of people downgraded to Gold. I applied for the Ritz card in June 2018. I inquired about a month ago with Marriott prior to making a large number of reservations and was told my Platinum Elite status was good through the end of 2019.

add me to this list as well. I opened the card and did $10k spend before the cutoff date and was platinum until a couple days ago. Super frustrating

Yeah, same here. Have a number of stays for summer 2019 that I will be cancelling if I don't get to keep my Platinum status from signing up for the ritz card last summer.
