However, later the same day I also requested the credit by Secure Message (for "baggage fees) and it was approved. Very YMMV now but still doable. 2/10/2017
Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

There is no clear pattern in the downgrades, it is either some people slipping through the cracks, or it's just a matter of time...

I'll throw in my data point. I applied for the RC Rewards Card in June 2018 and my account on both the mobile app and the Marriott website on my PC show I'm still Platinum Elite. It appears from the posts above that most of those downgraded to Gold are older cardholders who had been charging $10,000 annually to maintain Gold and then got upgraded to Platinum, albeit briefly. With the ruckus being raised about this, I wouldn't be surprised if Marriott reverses course and reinstates Platinum status to those who suddenly lost it.

I think I stated this before.
My RC card was opened Oct-2017. Had $10k spending. RC Gold -> MR Plat. Marriott system shows that my MR Plat expired on 1/31/2019.
SO's RC card was opened in Jul-2018. Just $4k initial spend, no $10k spend. RC Gold -> MR Plat. Marriott system shows that the MR Plat expired on 1/31/2020.
I can't explain it. I was expecting just the opposite.

I don't care what the "Marriott system" says, since we can't actually see status expiry dates and most customer service reps are semi-morons, so what does your and your SO's Bonvoy phone app or website say your status is as of today? Gold or plat? Presumably it should be one or the other.

You keep saying this but it still isn't clear to me because it makes no sense. The Marriott status year rolls over at the end of Feb. So why would Marriott/some rep tell you it ended at the end of January? I actually asked you in this post if you could confirm your status ended and never got a reply.

Spending 75K for what other chains give you just for having a credit card does not make sense unless you have a very specific goal in mind (like life time years - but again if that is the case organic stays would do it).

Just checked and my status has been downgraded to Gold - I'm one of those RC cardholders who did the $10k/yr. spend

If you do not believe or trust Marriott's system, then it is fine. This is how our status is recorded. It became true and this has been confirmed by several people.
The Marriott rep whom I spoke to was also puzzled when I called her in early February. She said the status should have been updated early February. But it did not happen until early March. Apparently Marriott continues to have IT issues.

Not to tell people what to do, but if you're going to call, please also email the lurker team. They are honestly better equipped to handle this sort of thing than phone reps, and hopefully a number of people emailing them will lead to the right people hearing this internally.

Thanks @Marriott Bonvoy Lurker II. Add me to the list of people downgraded to Gold. I applied for the Ritz card in June 2018. I inquired about a month ago with Marriott prior to making a large number of reservations and was told my Platinum Elite status was good through the end of 2019.
