However, later the same day I also requested the credit by Secure Message (for "baggage fees) and it was approved. Very YMMV now but still doable. 2/10/2017

Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

The only reason I would think a relaunch may be possible is because Amex is still allowed to offer the personal SPG card.

Chase offers the Personal non-premium MARRIOTT CARD but doesn't offer a Premium card, since Amex has taken that over with the SPG Luxury card.

Meanwhile, a regular consumer is able to choose between Chase or Amex if they want a non-premium Marriott card.

.
I think once Marriott launches it's ridiculously named combined program we may see the Amex normal SPG card close to new applicants to be in line with the AmEx/Chase split that they agreed to. Just my 2 Marriott points worth...

That would definitely make sense. I am glad I upgraded my Chase Marriott card to the Ritz Carlton Rewards card a couple months ago. It has better benefits than the SPG Luxury Card IMO and I am curious to see how Chase handles things next year when Marriott relaunches the new program.

I agree. I'm extremely glad I applied for it before it got killed since it wasn't 5/24. Even ignoring getting free Platinum for 2019, the card itself is pretty underrated as a long term keeper in my view. $300 airline credit is pretty easy to use up, new free night cert is easily worth $300-400 USD, and to my knowledge it's the only source of club lounge upgrade certificates at the RC, one of which is saving me a lot of money at RC Berlin next year.

Honestly, I really hope they do not re-launch it. As a legacy product, I don't suspect they'll make any further changes to it. If it gets re-launched they're liable to re-evaluate the economics of it. In particular, I sure do not want them to take away free AUs with Priority Pass.

What do you Mean with getting Free platinum for 2019? Is that the case when you hold this card?

if you had picked up the card before in the year before they closed it and before the merger, the thinking was you’d become gold which translates into platinum elite for rest of 2018 and 2019.

Correct, a special rate you have to call and get but has always been competitive with the lowest published rate (for me).

If you spend $75K on the RC Chase Visa you get Platinum status. Otherwise "just" Gold.

This is only partially accurate, as you also get Platinum status your first year, the contours of which have been discussed ad nauseam in this thread.

Yes but the rate code for it (Z38) always matches the member flex rate in my experience. In fact at RC Tokyo it's consistently a bit lower. $100 property credit too, so you don't feel like you're losing something not going through Virtuoso.

You can search for Z34 on the website as a proxy for the Z38 Club + $100 rate. I've not encountered an example where they differ.

Is the travel credit based on membership year or calendar year? Trying to make sure I use all those that expire 12/31.

Maximum statement credit accumulation for this offer is $300 per calendar year. Annual credit will be issued for the calendar year in which the transaction posts to your account. For example, if you pay baggage fees at the end of 2015, and the airline does not post the transaction until 2016, the cost of the baggage fees will be allocated towards your 2016 calendar year maximum of $300.
