Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.

My signup bonus of 2 free night certificates at the Ritz just posted. They say up to 60,000 points. Will these be converted to points or will they stay as free night certs?

I think it would be an exception to get them converted to points. I'd much rather have points though, even if they expired in a year.

The "conversion" is being able to use Ritz 1-4 certificates at any hotel up to 60,000 points. For the rest of 2018, that means good anywhere.
Points would be better if you're not staying at 60,000 points a night properties. If you had 120,000 points, you could get 2 nights at 50,000 point properties and have 20,000 points leftover. 120,000 points also could be converted to airline miles; 2 nights cannot. Again, moot point though.

The card is still coming as metal right? I lost my old one and had to order an replacement. Will be sad if it's not metal

It is a personal preference but the reason I prefer points is there are more options. Even if they restricted me to use the 120k only on hotels and only in 12 months, I could plan a use for them more easily.

Are you sure your certificates posted as 2 free Ritz nights? That is not what others have experienced. And also, the Ritz sign up certificates could not be used at top category Ritzes either.

In the MR/SPG thread I think StarwoodLurker or someone said the certificates would be converted to point certificates. I think the answer was a little vague and sounded like we could get 120k instead of the 2-night certificate we're getting. I don't have mine yet but to answer your question, yes it is for any hotel at 60k not just Ritz.

"It" happened but it's a point-based 2-night certificate instead of a pure points certificate. :-( If anyone is successful in getting points in lieu of nights, it will probably be shared here.

Ah, ok. So should I use these before 2018 is over? We're heading to Florida and there is a Ritz in Orlando, but we aren't going to be spending much time at the hotel, so I'm not sure if it is worth it. Otherwise, we don't have any other trips planned this year. If I book before 2018 is over, will they still be 60,000 points for top tier properties? We''re thinking of Hawaii early next year.
You can use them until their expiration. If you book now, you lock in the current rates. In 2019, the number of points for top properties will increase. You can use at Ritz or elsewhere. Whether it's cost-efficient is up to you.
