However, later the same day I also requested the credit by Secure Message (for "baggage fees) and it was approved. Very YMMV now but still doable. 2/10/2017
Southwest Airlines GCs work fairly easily. I've generally bought them for $150 and said they're excess baggage fees.
Frequent Miler has a collection of data points of what has worked in the past. Link

You have to call in to request the credit. Do you plan to lie about the nature of the charge? Really? Cheers.

I have the 2 free night certificates. Are they good at any Marriott/SPG property up to 60,000 points? The wiki states 'at any Ritz Carlton (Marriott) properties'. I'm not sure if that means any Marriott or not.

No. They work on 60k properties. For example, https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30224173-post2433.html

Yes, I previously called Marriott Reservations and used a cert for Al Maha outside Dubai. Looks like a fun all-inclusive with camel rides and other desert activities included.

Question: For credit to work, buying any refundable ticket ......and then upgrading with RCCC ....and then canceling ticket after getting credit....should work, correct? I see a lot of talk about JetBlue....but don't most carriers offer refundable fares. Why is JB so popular? Thanks in advance.

Seems like an awful lot of work to commit fraud. 🤷.♀️

Has anyone tried using a suite night upgrade certificate alongside a club level upgrade certificate? Is that doable?

Platinum Status Timing
Recently received this message via email in response to the question "When will my Platinum status change if I don't stay 50 nights?". Like many of you, my RC Gold status (opened July 2018) converted to Platinum after the merger in August. This response was from SPG and the rep's signature did not include any Marriott wording.i read it as folks in this situation will have Platinum until the end of next year. Take if for what you will....
".....If you earned your Elite status after January you will have it for the remainder of the Calendar year plus the next Calendar year. If the status is earned in January, you will have the status until Dec 31st of the current Calendar year."

What people can earn elite status in January? The only way is through $75,000 CC spending. January is probably from December statement. So technically you earned in December of that year....
