Costco.com and Chase Freedom 2Q bonus

Does anyone know if Costco.com purchases will count as a bonus category purchase on the Freedom ?

The easy way to answer this question is to find a previous purchase from Costco.com made with any VISA card. Check the merchant classification in the details of the transaction.

Yes online purchases count, the following is listed as an example of eligible purchases on the Chase website:
"Purchases made through the checkout on the wholesale club merchant's website (EX. BJs.com, Samsclub.com)". The examples and exclusions can be found at
https://creditcards.chase.com/freedom/merchants

Correct, and Costco no where to be seen on that page as an example on the approved or denied list. I plan to try a small purchase to see, but was hoping someone would know for sure. The Chase CSR I spoke to did not.

Category: MISC GENERAL MERCHANDISE NOT CLASSIFIED

Chase has the following exclusion:
"Stores that sell a variety of merchandise, including food items"
which, unfortunately, applies to Costco.

But Chase doesn't actually perform inventory. It goes by what the merchant reports as their category. So if the above fits Costco it's because of the category that Costco reports as, not because of the above description per se.

Grocery stores which have pharmacy departments, sell Halloween costumes, etc, are not excluded despite "selling a variety of merchandise" as long as they report themselves as grocery stores.

A better exclusion description which would distinguish between the two is "stores that sell food items only as a minority of their merchandise". Grocery stores which have a pharmacy department and sell Halloween costumes still dedicate the bulk of the store to food items. OTOH, I've never seen a Costco, Target, or Wal-Mart which had anywhere near 50% of the store selling food items.

I ordered a Costco cash card yesterday and will let you guys know when this posts to my Freedom.

I've ordered from Costco.com with another Chase card before but Chase online only shows me the merchant category when it's a bonus category. The name posted as COSTCO.COM *ONLINE

Does the Hyatt card give grocery bonuses? All my chase cards that have category bonuses only mention the category if the category happens to be bonused by the respective card.: freedom for 5x, ritz for 2x on car/flight /dining. Non bonused category transactions don't mention the merchant category.

Online purchases have to count.

Costco local stores and costco.com work differently.
That's why if you take an online promo and tell the local store to match it, they won't.
