New Chase Sapphire Reserve Card [Pre-release speculation]

Discussion continues HERE.

This card is under 5/24. You can override 5/24 by having an in-branch (only! online prequalification does NOT override 5/24) pre-approval, or by already being Chase Private Client (as in you see the "Chase Private Client" text on the login screen of the Chase mobile app.)

Landing page with bonus offer (100,000 UR after spending $4,000 in 90 days) is now live:

https://creditcards.chase.com/credit...04&IS2F=Y71UH0

Application page: https://applynow.chase.com/FlexAppWe...L3P&PROMO=DF01

100,000 UR points is worth $1,000 as statement credit, $1,500 when used for travel through the Chase portal, or potentially more if transferred to a partner.

Card features are here:https://www.chase.com/card-benefits/...reserve/travel. The card's Priority Pass includes unlimited guests.

Schumer box on 8/15/2016:

Chase Sapphire Reserve Ultimate Rewards Program Agreement

Chase Sapphire Reserve Guide to Benefits
https://www.chasebenefits.com/sapphirereserve

The purchases made that you receive the $300 travel credit (or $85/$100 trusted traveler program credits) for do count towards the minimum spend, but the annual fee does not.

The card is made of the same material as the CSP, and is being shipped UPS Next Day Air Saver to everyone after production (currently (8/26) appears to have about a 3-day delay after approval before shipping.)

Well, I missed the brochure, it's all still speculation. Sometimes the benefits aren't listed all that clearly and we still need the fine print. I'd like to say that the standouts for me are:

"Travel Purchases" is extremely ambiguous and we will definitely need clarification on this. It could potentially suck, and could potentially be better than we think. If it's actually a broad definition, then it could include "planes, trains, and automobiles" as it were. Hotels? Rental cars? Train tickets? Taxis? Uber? Maybe (but even less likely) gas! It may be wishful thinking, but Citi calls theirs "Air Travel Credit", Amex is "Airline Fee Credit", and CNB is "Airline Fee Incidental credit". This could make the Reserve card appealing to a much wider consumer base.

Some Citi Prestige documents don't mention guest privileges for Priority Pass either. If Chase does include guest privileges, I may keep this card for my wife and drop her AU on my Prestige so we have both. If it really is a broad definition "Travel" credit, this may be my new linked card for Uber as well.

I've had great experiences with the CSP insurance, and Amex premium insurance costs extra. I don't think it's fair to compare something included in the annual fee to something that costs $25 extra every time you rent.

Also, Amex excludes Australia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, and New Zealand, while Chase has no country exclusions.

The $0.015 vs $0.0125 redemption value is meaningless if you transfer points to airlines or hotels, because that value applies only to travel redemptions.

The signup bonus is a temporary element which won't affect the decision to use or keep the card after the bonus is awarded. Chase is a me too bank, their entire credit card business has been built through acquisition, and (yet again) I am not seeing anything innovative.

If those are all the benefits, this is a very weak card. With all Chase relationships one would have thought they could have come with something really unique and inventive.

That said, I'll get it for the bonus; downgrade the preferred to freedom unlimited, and downgrade this one to preferred next year before annual fee hits.

It would be a stretch to use the $600 travel credit (the $300 from the Ritz is already a stretch as it is), but for 100K UR points I'll do it.

Based on benefit speculation, I agree that the Chase Reserve appears to have weak perks. It appears that the Chase Sapphire Reserve is meant to compete more with Citi Prestige rather than American Express Platinum. In order for the Chase Sapphire Reserve to move the needle for me, the card would need to include some hotel status (with Hyatt, Marriott, or other co-brand partner) and other perks. Although a 100K signup bonus will move the needle for me to get the card, there aren't enough perks that have been divulged for me to keep the card.

It appears that the Ritz Carlton card has been refreshed to parallel many of the benefits mentioned in connection with this card. Begin reading at post 410:

Chase is not stupid. They know people out there just sign up for the bonus. I wonder if the card will have a clawback clause, or perhaps a HUGE spend requirement.

Only $4k spend required for the 100k bonus.

And you know this for sure? We don't even know for sure that the card will be released with these specs.

Which really surprised me - was expecting something on the order of 10K. But as the new Ritz is only 5K (and the bonus worth more than 100K - but of course does not cost as much to Chase), it sounds about right.

4K is doable, 10K not so much.

Not too surprising. AMEX Platinum had a 100,000 points offer with a similar spend requirement. Requiring 10K spend in three month limits a pool of potential applicants too much.

Wow -- this sounds like a no-brainer for me. Too bad I'm way over 5/24. I'll just have to hope the limit doesn't apply, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll be under by next Spring, but the 100k bonus will probably be gone by then.

IF (big "if") the credit can be applied to air fare, it will be huge. Then, the AF is only $150 for practical purposes. Considering you get Priority Pass Lounge Access, this card seems to blow away the competition. Especially with the 3x on travel, dining.
I actually start to wonder if I should dump my Chase Shappire and get the Reserve... a difference of $50 is not much for lounge access and an extra 1x on travel, dining.
