Current public offers, as of 9/1/17
See post 527 regarding an 80,000-point offer: "When I made my reservation, when I got past the point of picking my hotel, and picked my room, there was an active link on the bottom of the page for the 80000+$50 offer."

All offers have the following terms/benefits:
  • Signup bonus earned after $1,000/$2000 spend in first 3 months
  • Starting on the first anniversary of account opening, a free night every year at any IHG hotel. (Cert may be redeemed online.)
  • 5 points per $ spent at IHG hotels
  • 2 points per $ spent on gas, groceries and dining
  • 1 point per $ on everything else
  • 10% points rebate on any redemptions. ("Please allow 4 to 6 weeks after Reward Night stay for rebated points to be deposited into your account")
  • No fee 1st year, then $49.
  • No foreign transaction fees.
  • IHG Platinum status for as long as you hold the card.
Q. Where can I learn more about the annual free-night certificate associated with this card? How long are the certificates good for? Are the certificates revoked if you cancel your Chase card?

A. See Annual Free Night Cert from IHG (Rewards Club) Visa / Mastercard.

Q. Once I meet the $1000 (or $2000) spending requirement, how soon will I receive my bonus points?
Q. Can I apply for this card and earn the bonus after doing so previously?

A. For answers to these and other questions, see the wiki and related discussion in the master discussion thread Applying for Chase Credit Cards, 2017 onward

Q. Will the signup bonus count toward Spire Elite status?

A. No

That agent was wrong. As you noted, the T&Cs of the offer disagree with what she said. I've successfully opened 2-3 Chase cards since last year only weeks after closing identical cards. Nobody here has ever reported previous account closure date as a reason for being denied a bonus.

Sorry, not buying it. You may well have gotten multiple bonuses in the past (as I have), but it's not plausible that you've earned more than one signup bonus on any Chase card -- Marriott, IHG, or any other -- since July 2014.

Also, you're mistaken about approval implying bonus eligibility. Chase is notorious for approving applications even if the applicant is bonus-ineligible. (See the wiki at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chase...5-present.html, under "Great! So if I received the same card more than 2 years ago, I can apply again and get the bonus, right?")
Like I said, I was approved the 1st card on 7/27/13. I got my free night on 7/31/14. I don't know when I applied the 2nd card. I got approved the 3rd card on 3/24/2016 and 80K bonus on 4/27/16.

I have nothing to gain from this.

The only possible explanation is that you applied for the IHG Visa in June 2014 and then the IHG MC in March 2016. That's all well and good, but it's useless as a future indicator since the Visa has long since been discontinued. So please stop telling people that they can get the bonus after less than 24 months, because that hasn't been true for quite some time.

I have totally forgot about about the Visa - MC deal. I guess that was the exception.

Tried the dummy booking method, only presented with a generic ad about the benefits of the card, which leads to this page that talks about the benefits, but no application link: http://www.ihg.com/hotels/us/en/glob...GAGE-5X_Select

I've been getting the targeted 80k IHG MC offer - haven't had the card before.

Applied a few months back on the same day I applied for the Marriott (and Citi Prestige) and they wouldn't give me both at the same time so I'd leave it for a while.

I'd like to get the CFU in the near future so unsure whether it's worth getting this since it almost certainly will put me over 5/24 (if I'm not already there).

My IHG account is at 5k so it'll give me a bit of a bump but I'm not an IHG person so it won't help an existing stockpile.

Thoughts?

Looks like you answered your own question. If you're not an IHG person and you want the CFU, ...

For people who have held the IHG MC more than 24 months....................

How long after the free night posted and you paid the AF did you cancel the card ?

How long after you cancelled the IHG card did you apply for the card again ?

I will have the IHG MC 2 years in June. Assuming the 5/24 on co brands doesn't become reality I was thinking of cancelling the card in November 2016 and applying again in January 2017.

My free night that I get in June 2016 would already be booked but the stay wouldn't occur until April 2017, any issues with using the cert after the card is canceled ?

Thanks

I cancelled my previous IHG MC a few weeks after the free night cert posted, then applied for a new card a few weeks after cancelling the previous. No clawback, no problems with approval.

Quick question - our anniversary is in late October, what would be the optimal card opening time with the 1-night-free certificate expiration such that we can use 2 years of certificates in late Oct and/or early Nov?

There's a thread that specializes in questions about the free night certificate. Take a look at Annual Free Night Cert from PC Visa in the IHG Rewards forum.

Briefly put, what you're doing is possible but risky. Consider opening two accounts, one for you, one for your partner, instead. Then you'll have two free nights every year to use together.

Reward nights often sell out fast at better properties. If you know that you want to use the certs in the Oct/Nov time frame every year you should each get a card in late November.

This way you will have the certs in hand ready to book when the dates open up the following year.

Example, apply this November 20 , 2016. Free Cert posts about November 20, 2017 and you should them be able to book your Oct/Nov 2018 free nights and so on.

I've done precisely that - and had no problems.
