For me there really are still two big questions that need to be answered before I start looking at closing my account:
1. What is going to happen to CURRENT holders of the card? Will we be grandfathered in at the current annual fee and benefits? If the card remains as is, what are the limitations on the "eligible" hotels for the free night?
2. Will the "eligible" hotels for the free night be different on the NEW CC offered? Meaning...will the higher annual fee of $89 open up more "eligible" hotels for the free night?

I have only stayed four (paid) nights as Accelerate components. I wonder whether a 4th award night at an IC or Kimpton would be possible burning points on the first three?
I don't envision any sort of "grandfathering" - instead, probably a new card (your choice?) transferring existing credit line.

I wonder what are they going to do on the EXISTING cards benefits when the FN cert has no restriction worldwide? Can't see IHG IT could handle the job to differentiate the source of FN. They could not even protect customers' accounts for all the years when many accounts got brute force hacking due to it continues to use 4 digits PIN.

I can still find the IHG card with a 60,000 point bonus on Chase.com Not sure if they just have not removed it yet.

Personally, I prefer the free voucher anywhere instead of 4th night free.
I could live with the $89 card coming with a voucher for any room. $89 is still not bad for some of the rooms you can get, and 10x points can help offset some of that. If the redemption is only for 40,000 point rooms, then that is a different story.

Agree! After yrs of 1, 2 and 3 night hotels stays I've just completed my first 5 night stay ever (5th night free at a Hilton). It I need >3 night stay I find a condo to rent or exchange into with my Wyndham pts or timeshares I own.

This is quite discouraging.. why don't they just turn IC Ambassador program into a credit card product, which will be more interesting if they could further beef up the benefit a little bit.
I may just drain my IHG points and move on with Hilton or SPG or Citi Prestige 4th night free by the time Chase converts all $49 accounts to the (alleged) new version..

I was thinking that Chase would learn something from the recent Amex Aspire and Ascend launch and come up with a higher end card for the IHG. I guess the Aspire and Ascend needs to get more traction before other hotels realize the benefits of credit card loyalty.

I would hope Chase realizes this, given that they offer Hyatt, Marriott, Ritz, and IHG credit cards already, even if only the Ritz card is a Visa Infinite.

Let's also not forget that the hotel chains have to be willing to play ball in offering the high-end cards. Maybe Hilton was willing to do it with AMEX (especially since they gave them their entire CC portfolio and left Citi) but who knows how Hyatt, MR and IHG feel about it. With Hyatt and MR I can see it making sense since their top tiers actually offer some benefits but with IHG I personally think most people would take a pass on a high-end card offering as the benefits just aren't there. Just my two cents worth.

Hmm, if the old cards are not grandfathered in then it may make me drop the IHG card and IHG altogether...

True BUT I wonder if Chase really wants to offer a high-end hotel product. I know AMEX is offering them now as well as having their AMEX Platinum but could Chase be taking a different approach and thinking that if a customer is looking for a high-end product that they will get the Chase Sapphire Reserve?
