Wait, they clawed back a year-old retention offer? Wow.

Ritz-Carlton Rewards Card (2016 onward)

Hi- I received Platinum Status by spending $75K in 2015. Marriott shows the Platinum Status till January 2017

If the Card is canceled in 2016, do we lose the Platinum Status?

Thanks for the help.

It's 2016 now. Any new datapoints on the Airline incidental reimbursements? I know we had a few a couple pages upstream, but just curious =]

Who did you call. I called JPM Priority services (my fee posted 1/1/16) and they basically told me to F off when I asked if there were any offers available. Called again today and got a much more polite rep who still told me there were no offers available.

I assume you mean gift card reimbursements since incidentals are incidentals.

I just bought a $200 gift card yesterday. I'll report back.

JPM customer service number on the card. I went in planning to cancel and was clear on that, not fishing for offers. Rep was cordial and walked me through card benefits and what he could do to keep me, including the free night offer and an offer to downgrade to Marriott card.

All Ritz-Carlton Rewards Card offers [Consolidated]

Any retention offers beside 1-4 cat free night?

CodeAdam10 Jan 4, 2016 1:12 pm

Is Chase known to claw-back the reimbursement if I were to utilize my $300 travel credit benefit and then cancel the card?

Jay00848 Jan 4, 2016 9:36 pm

If you cancel the card after 4 months will Chase prorate the AF?

Nope. They refund up until 60 days after, but the prorated refund you refer to is done by Amex not Chase

Just called to get this reimbursed. Done with no questions asked. From dialing until hanging up, the total call time was less than 2 minutes.

AA gift card.

How long does it take for the Cat 1-4 certs to show up usually after you meet the spend requirement?

Ritz Card: $300 credit for status top up?

Hi folks,

Has anyone used or knows if I can use the Ritz card to pay for airline status buy-in? This is when you're within X miles of making the next tier and the airline lets you pay to retain status for the next year?

Mine hasn't posted yet but a rep said this ISN'T reimbursable, but regular seat upgrades would be.

Going to try my luck anyway. The amount is above the $300 so not a small fee that can slip under the approval radar.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

You might be able to say it's airline membership, just don't include details and they'll probably think that it's lounge membership. Since it won't have a ticket number tied to it.

It's still pending and it's a multiple of what a membership costs lol. Let's see how it posts

Well, it's definitely not a flight ticket. Those post as numbers of the ticket number. Does it say the airline directly on the pending line? Like AA, UA, or whatever? If so, I'd say you have a pretty good shot. Could say it's membership for you, your wife, your kid, the dog...

A multiple? What is lounge membership? 400-500? How much did you pay

Never tell them that or you will get an outright NO!
The T&C's are not new, they are just much more strict in enforcing them

Data Point: Purchased a $60 Delta GC hoping I could get the expense reimbursed. The charge now shows up as "Delta Air Gift Cards", so Delta GC's now appear to be off the table.

My AF is coming up on 2-1-16, can I utilize my 300 travel credit before the AF fee is charged and then cancel. Is there no clawback?

Correct. The benefit is explicitly per calendar year, so you've got until 2/1/16 (or actually a little later than that since you can cancel after the AF posts and get it waived when you cancel).

socrpro192 Jan 9, 2016 10:08 am

Has anyone bought any AA e gift cards lately and had them credited? I did my last year ones in $50 increments and it worked last year. Also so there is no clawback if you cancel after you get a new set of incidentals but before the AF is refundable?

Has anyone who opened his account Dec 2014 seen annual fee charge on Jan 1st? Today I called for incidental reimbursement and then asked about this year annual fee and CSR after checked the computer said my account shows next AF will be on Jan 2017!

I bought AA e-gift cards at the end of December. I bought incremental values that totaled $300. I had the travel credit applied with no questions asked. I do not believe they will claw back the annual travel credits, but I haven't had experience with this.

Noticed same on wife's acct. Opened mid-December 2014. I was expecting AF to hit first of this month as well, but I would be very happy to keep both of our PP's for an extra year.

did you also lower the CL for waiving AF last year?
If AF doesn't show up on Feb 1st, Maybe the rule for low CL is to never pay AF not just 1st year.

That would be wonderful! the only annoying thing is the cl is so low, you always need to worry when purchasing expensive goods...

why do you want to use Ritz card when there are much better credit cards for MS or real spending?

I don't know for sure, but I think the purchase protection insurance is some of the best of regularly available cards.

As for me, I only use mine for Marriott stays and then whatever miscellaneous spend to get to $10k.

you are pretty much correct. There are two situation I would like to use ritz credit card:

1, non-category spending. even some 2x card can provide 1 more point, but 10k spend to get gold marroit status is still need to be done.

2, for things you purchased potentially need purchase protection, ritz card is really a nice card to use. CS is dedicated line and always generous of doing purchase protection.

I just looked, purchase protection is same as AmEx plat, better than CSP. Return protection is best on Ritz, and Ritz has price protection too.

Thanks for the info. One thing I forget to mention about ritz is even the cl you low to ~1500, it still has a hidden cl. I know this because once I forgot my ritz cl is this low and I made a 2000 purchase. However no one complained. I even bought more thing after. More than a week later, I realized that and called the CS, they told me this. The only thing is I don't know the number of the hidden CL :)

I think that's the same for all Visa Signature cards (my US Bank flexperks works this way). If you go over the limit, it functions as a charge card. So if your limit is $1k and you spend $2k, you have to pay in full at least $1k.

yeah I did and maybe it is related. That would be awesome, as I love that AU's also gets PP with 2 free guests.

Does outright buying a ticket look any different than seat upgrade fees when it posts?

I'm not sure if it looks the same but I've received the reimbursement for flight reservations booked on jetBlue, Frontier, and Volaris.
