If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

None of that applies here.

Any idea what further steps I should take next? Seems like not many have recently had success with the CFPB...

Maybe there are things you don't know about your relatives. Mistakes are always possible, but I doubt Chase is shutting down entire extended families on a whim.

If you truly believe it's an error, write a letter to the executive office at Chase. CFPB probably won't matter much, if at all.

Only info chase will give regarding the shutdown is that "it's from the compliance dept, and it's a final decision".

We all tried calling multiple times for a review, nothing doing.

Any ideas? What should our next step be...
Any member of the extended family has banking accounts with Chase? If so, any wire transfers especially international wire transfers? cash deposits? Those are compliance sensitive areas.

How do you know it wasn't the other relatives at the different address?

i was an au on one of their cards, I assume that's how the connection was made.

No wires, I was the only one that banked with chase (bank account, not cc)

I'm hoping to get more cards, and worry that my # of inquiries may be getting a bit high

Last July, ~12 months ago, I finished grad school and went into adult mode. I got a best buy credit card, a Lowes Credit card, and financed furniture through a local credit/loan office. I also bought a house. So ~4 pulls.

Then I decided to refinance my student loans: I checked 3-4 companies, which all did a soft pull, 1 did a hard pull, and I refinanced. Another 4 pulls

Back in March, I wanted to get my credit score up, and figured increasing my limits would help. They did a pull on my Freedom card. Then I got the CSR and Chase ink Cash. So ~11 pulls in the last 12 months.

As far as cards, I've gotten 2 in the last 24 months. I've got a current limit of 40,500 with chase. No Banking at this time.
I've bought a couple of store gift cards (Lowes, Hotels.com, Bass Pro), but no Gift cards, money orders.)

I spend around 3-4K/month organically across all cards. I pay the balances down 1-2x/month.
Income is ~300K.

My next cards to target are the Chase ink unlimited an Chase ink preferred.

Am I ok to apply without fear of being shut down? Or will they feel I'm seeking too much credit? How long should I wait?

To be honest beside the number of inquiries I see no reason for Chase not to approve the additional card. And for a shutdown I see no reason at all.
if you want to increase your already good odds decrease the credit limit on your cards (via PM) so the additional cars won’t increase you already granted line. Don’t think this is needed but can’t hurt either.

RE: inquiries...

In some cases where pulls for the same thing happen in a short amount of time, they end up being consodered as a single pull. It’s nice as it allows people to shop around for the best deal on major purchases like cars, houses, etc. So when you refinanced your student loans, if the pulls (hard pulls, as soft pulls don’t count) were within a week to 10 days then they will be considered as a single pull.

I would be very confident they won't shut you down. They might not approve you for any more cards/credit, but that's just saying no. Reduce you credit limits on your Chase cards if you want to increase your chances of approval.

Best Course of Action?

Applied for the World of Hyatt card when it came out, application went pending, then automatically approved after a couple hours (it was my 6th card with Chase). It was a Friday, and the next Monday all of my cards were closed. Called to ask for a reinstatement review, gave detailed explanation, but got a call one week later saying the accounts couldn't be reopened. Cited two reasons:
- Repeatedly added and removed authorized users
- Too many new accounts opened within the last 24 months
Also sent an email to the CEO and the Executive Office got back to me a few days later saying they're keeping the original decision. Since the Executive Office also handles CFPB complaints I doubt it'd be of any help. Any chance of getting the accounts reinstated through other means? E.g. filing a complaint with the State Attorney General, etc.

Not really.

How many accounts had you opened in the past 24 months?

16 in the last 24 months. According to the rep, 4 AUs. Any reports of how long to wait before it's possible to get approved for a Chase card after shutdown?

Sorry for your loss!

As a general comment, this is -exactly- why my butt is holding tight on Chase. I hit them very hard in late 2016 and all of 2017, and another Hyatt or IHG card is not going to change my life. But losing my CSR, orig Hyatt, orig IHG, etc. etc. while not crushing at all, would suck. This isn't paranoia, this is prudence. I am all about maximizing benefits, but when is enough, enough?

I am happy to retract or alter this if the OP has been MS'ing or something "off", but it doesn't look like it. This isn't the first one.
