If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

My guess is that this wasn't the first time the OP had initiated a chargeback, either.
Who knows. Until OP comes back to give more details, there will be all sorts of speculation.

If you go way back on this thread you would find FT member jk2 has a very legit dispute (the merchant delivered an inferior and different product versus what he ordered), that has triggered closure. But jk2 has had multiple Chase closures anyway. His experiences with Chase are quite interesting to read if you so incline.

In the Citi forum, there was a thread over a year ago or even longer, also with similar scenario - a dispute on a duplicate charge from the merchant and led to account closure. IIRC it was the first time the cardholder disputed a charge which showed up on his card twice for something he ordered. Merchant supplied one invoice showing the order but the problem was, merchant charged his card twice. What are you going to do?

Or perhaps they have a long credit history but shallow credit report.

Someone with an extremely high income usually sees little use in obtaining credit when they can just save money by not paying interest.

A person could be 45 years old, have an extremely high income, have no inquiries and one account on their credit report, no carried balances, no late payments and have excellent credit... Certainly enough to get a card with a $30,000+ limit.

Everyone who takes out a loan is a risk. Everyone.

Citi isn't exactly the brightest card issuer out there, so nobody should ever take an involuntary closure from that bank to heart.

Who cares which bank is the brightest issuer? The key is, Citi has the greatest AA churn... in case you are not aware such... an involuntary closure would set you back 3+ years before you can rejoin the party again when the party goers are getting hundreds of thousands miles a year... And with that rate of raking in AA miles , the Citi party goers could not care less about Chase or whoever being the brightest issuer.

A little OT but how do you get hundreds of thousands of miles each year churning AA cards with the "no new bonus in the first 24 month after closure"? Is there a workaround

What is Barclays' bonus policy? Right now, they're offering the Red Aviator card that gives 50,000 miles after your first purchase and annual fee payment.

Not to mention voluntary closure has nothing to do with churning cards. Sure, you may be ineligible, but that's outside the scope of this thread.

Make sure you read the Wiki of the thread mia directs you to. It is one of the most well-written, well-organized wiki on FT, Should give anyone spends time to read / understand it the needed knowledge on almost anything related to the Citi AA cards.

Who is talking about voluntary closure here? I thought I mentioned about Citi closed someone's card after he disputed a duplicate charge. It would make the person ineligible for any Citicard for 3+ years.
That led to your claim of "Citi is not the brightest issuer" that nobody cares about... It eventually led to the discussion mia correctly moved / redirected to the appropriate threads for those who want to gain more knowledge.

Obviously I meant involuntary closure.

My point is if an issuer closes your card, move on, it isn't the end of the world.

Well, chase shutdown

Me and my wife (and other relatives at a different address with the same last name).

All 800+ Fico's no high utilization, no recent chase apps (last ones 7+ months ago)

Only info chase will give regarding the shutdown is that "it's from the compliance dept, and it's a final decision".

We all tried calling multiple times for a review, nothing doing.

Any ideas? What should our next step be...

After a Chase shutdown, how long usually after do the spouse's cards get shut down? If say the spouse's cards aren't shut down after two weeks--is the spouse's accounts usually safe?

Your post is very vague, to much so for anyone to answer.
Look in the wiki and post the answers to those first 14 questions here.

"Compliance department" typically means that Chase found something in someone's background that they didn't like: Criminal record, lawsuit, involvement in a controversial business (drugs, porn, etc.), connection with a sanctioned country/government, etc.
