If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

Hope you are just acting right now as the scenario "ebay seller" and your strip club "entertaining high revenue clients" spending more in a night than his sales are in a year ... just try it yourself and see if teh IRS considers that a business expense

You didn't read my last sentence. Also, I'm talking about what Chase gets to decide, not the IRS. In the end, none of this matters, because as mia wrote earlier...

Yes I did but "starting a new venture" using a credit card created for an ebay seller didn't make any sense at all (as if it would be a new venture then that would be a new business and a new card to keep expenses separate) .... Chase doesn't decide what is a business expense and what isn't (the IRS on the other hand does) they decide what they find unbelievable/weird/out of the ordinary/fraud/.... and go from there as they please.

Does anyone have any idea if product changing (from a Chase Freedom to Chase Freedom Unlimited) puts a set of eyes on your overall account situation with Chase to the level of what is getting people scrutiny in the spirit of these shut downs?

There might be certain tax advantages to this, but it's not a requirement. I have a consulting business, a day-trading business, I write for blogs, and I have rental income. As far as the IRS is concerned, it's all one business--me as a sole proprietor. If this weekend at the country club, I meet some guy who wants me to introduce him to my hedge fund contacts for a big fee, there could very well be a $5000 strip club expense at the end of the day. It would most certainly be a business expense.

I was shut down (in error as they later wrote me) - reinstated and since then cancelled a card, changed Marriott Premier to Premier Plus and while doing so I moved credit lines around (from the close and then later to the Marriott). While there were eyes involved I don't think they were from the SDD (shut-down-department)

Has anyone seen any correlation between high UR balances and shutdowns? I've always kept my URs spread out between accounts (just left them in the ones that earned them) so that no single account had too many. But now with the rumors about them no longer allowing you to transfer from one account to another, I'm feeling like I need to combine them into a couple of premium card accounts, so they can still be moved to partners as necessary. That would put over 300k in one account, and over 250k in another.

Any thoughts on high balances being in some way linked? I just feel like that could stick out as a red flag for possible "reward misuse".

Zero. None. Zip. Nada.

People are becoming way too paranoid over the Chase shutdowns. Chase is looking to combat synthetic identity credit card fraud and "bust-out" credit default profiles. Simply having a large UR balance has not yet proven to be in any way correlated to a shutdown.

What rumor are you referring to?

Chase just shut down all my accounts. Never a day late on payment. Leaving on vacation in a few weeks and my chase cards are the only cards I have other than my amex, really not sure what Im even going to do. Has anyone had any luck in getting this reversed?

Yes it doesn’t seem to be unusual to get them reopened as the algorithm is overly aggressive
did they give you a reason when you called?

I am unable to speak to anyone in the appropriate department until Monday morning. I will update with my results.

You're on the right course. Find out what they're willing to tell you and appeal the shutdown. You have nothing to lose. Thankfully, you have another bank's card.

RNE, suggesting that shutdowns are why one should always have credit cards from at least three banks.

Absolutely no MS.

I have a sapphire reserve, sapphire preferred, Amazon prime, and ritz carlton card with chase. I am an authorized user on another person's sapphire preferred card if that matters.

I have an Amex Plat and a barclaycard (barclaycard only has 1000 limit and has never been used)

I recently applied for the new marriott card and the hyatt card, both declined which was a bit surprising as although my fico score isnt amazing its a bit above 700 (I have carried a balance on the card at times, although my overall credit usage is down to about 20% at the moment)
