If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

Such a nice post... very refreshing... i told chase when i spoke to a manager there frantic after reading the replies here and they told me to that the forum often posts only the bad scenarios but noone bothers to post when something good actually happens because they said most come out with favorable outcome... thank you so much for your kind words.

Angel,

As Diplomatico said, ignore the vitriole. There's a ton of experts with great information here, but just as many, if not more, who have a very narrow and pessimistic view of the world.

Great that things worked out for you, but hopefully this opened your eyes to a few of the things that other people said. In particular, carrying multiple credit cards from different banks. I sometimes underestimate how crazy my wife will go on her shopping (and don't put a high spend notification on my cards). Last time my wife went to do some shopping and ended up burning through almost 20k that day. Each time she locked a card, she would just tell me and switch to one of my other cards while I was on the phone with the credit card companies. The cards locked every 2k spend or so, and it took me about 5 calls before I boneheadedly thought to put a high spend on the card. Although she loves to shop, she's usually quite frugal and rarely spends more than 5k during a shopping spree. I just didn't expect that she would lose her mind that day.

In any case, I have about 8 cards from different issuing banks, and carry a Visa, Mastercard, and at least one other type of card (ie Amex or Discover). I'd also recommend multiple cards simply to spread out your utilization ratio, which is quite high. There are also many additional reasons to carry multiple cards, such as maximizing your rewards categories.

One advice everyone seems to agree on is carry multiple cards from multiple banks. I understand UR due to its very easy to liquidate nature is the most favorite from those who have ways to liquidate among niche circles, so as AMEX Membersip Reward. Have seen countless posts about offers and requests in non English sites. But now you know relying a single card a single bank is not the smart choice, may be it is time to broaden your scope and spread the outsize spend on your love for high fashion to more cards.

Any chance they'll reopen the accounts they closed without notice?

Slim to none. You have a shot at reestablishing your relationship with Chase via newly opened accounts, but not in the short run. Meanwhile, pursue other banks' cards.

It is safe to transfer the point to my spouse or someone in the same household? Or its better to just transfer to hotel/airline and not drag any family member in this mess?

Just lost all my Chase cards to shutdown today (4 Ink Cards, 1 Sapphire Reserve, 1 Freedom Unlimited, 1 Hyatt, and 1 Slate). Think calling to downgrade the sapphire preferred card to freedom unlimited a couple weeks ago after the annual fee hit might have caused more attention on my accounts.

Have been maximizing the 4 Inks at office supply stores for past 4+ years and always repaying them via WM BP's after Bluebird shut me off a year ago. End of a long era (already visited many parts of the world with extensive luxury hotel stays and Business/First class travel, which was going to slow down anyway after first baby soon on the way), and curious how it'll impact my credit score after these updates, doesnt matter to me as dont need any loans anytime soon.

i would personally just transfer to hotel/airline. i'm thinking of transferring to southwest myself. a family member, whose accounts (3 cards), were all closed last month transferred his UR to me. now all my accounts are closed - not sure if it was because of that or because i just got approved for a freedom unlimited that brought scrutiny to my accounts though....

I once knew a stripper who offered sage wisdom appropriate to your situation. To wit, all sugar daddies get tired of you eventually. That's why you want to have more than one.

The bold would be my guess as to why.

Your contaminated relative infected you, not the new card.

No but a friend's account was shutdown and he was wondering if he should transfer the points to his wife's account.

Still have other sugar daddies besides Chase intact and avenues to still have some luxury travel but this was definitely the biggest daddy and lowest hanging fruit. Now it'll just be a lot more work to achieve similar benefits.
