If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:
CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

Are you hearing about these shutdowns on another forum? Can you share more details?

I can't think they'd target people to make $3,000 and expose themselves. There's more to the story.

Surely there is a banking ombudsman or a fair trading in your state who you can complain to.that is what I would do!

Count me in.

It all started with a letter from Chase that my Checking and Savings will be closed. Few days later I put in a request to transfer 100K UR Points to UA - the transfer never completed, now all my cards - Ink Bold, Sapphire, United - shown as closed. Requests to transfer points or make a purchase with points error out.

Planning on calling them later, but don't have much hope.

Most of the 'questionable' activity I can think of are Chase Gift Card purchases. There was some additional activity on cards, but not much.

Not sure why it all started from Chase accounts - I never did MOs - liquidated through BB.

Will keep you guys posted, but it seems to me I will be looking for help on trying to get my points back...

You'll likely get nowhere with the reps if you're already seeing error messages to call in when trying to redeem. I attempted to get them to transfer the points earned on my last Ink statement, however they wouldn't budge. It was about 90k worth of points, 8/9 of them being UR mall purchases (Was redoing a kitchen when there was like 10x at a store). I'm now debating the small claims option since I never really did anything too crazy on the Chase cards. If you have the points to make it worth it small claims is likely your only option.

That's is my plan right now - I'll probably file with small claims - it's over a $1,000 after all. I don't understand discussions on what "crazy" is... I did not do anything illegal with my accounts or cards.

I hope you have a specific redemption in mind and make it before Feb. 1, which is when United is devaluing the program.

United's devaluation is nothing compared to Chase that decided to devaluate my 100K UR Points to 0 without any advance notice

If I may ask, why did you wait several days after getting this letter from Chase?

When I first heard about Chase closing accounts due to CGC purchases, I transferred all my points to UA. I had like $30K in CGC at some point, using all my CCCs for purchases.

If you did try to transfer right away, maybe you would succeed. But then again, maybe not.

Anyway, good luck.

Honestly, I was hoping that closing checking account would not affect my CCs. The checking account was was not involved in MS at all. And then I was a bit lazy busy with all the holidays... It sure bit me in a certain soft part of my body.

EXACTLY! I rather play it safe with the devaluation than to lose all of my poitns, should they decide to close my account.
