If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

Was approved for Ritz Carlton card 14 months later and did nothing unusual with it, other than lower CL from 30K to 10K to free up CL for possible approvals. My ex never had checking with Chase so it's something else.
We were authorized users on each other cards before divorce but not anymore.
No explanation was given besides "business decision".
We were never involved in a lawsuit of any kind.

If someone was successful in making them change their mind, please let me know how.
Again, what do you think you have done to deserve a shut down?
Any thing you can think of that ticked them off?

There's a list of questions in the wiki at the top. Maybe answering those will reveal something.

What was the nature of the litigation? There could've been something in there that made Chase nervous, irrespective of whether or not you settled with no admission of liability.

One more thing.
They scheduled to close my saving account 1 day before I'm supposed to receive $200 bonus for opening it and depositing $15K. I called and they told me I won't get the bonus.
They are typically sending 1099-INT for these bonuses and report it as interest, not rewards.
So they basically refused to pay interest on my deposit.
How is this could be legal?

Will the closing of this account affect my credit for applying for future cards (other than Chase)?

Sorry to hear this and appreciate you sharing this information. But I'm curious... How would Chase know that your company is involved in litigation? Is it a newsworthy event in your community or city? Did your banking records get subpoenaed?

The litigation alleged deceptive sales practices. no records or anything were ever subpoenaed by Chase. Ironically, the suit was settled before I even applied for the card.

Why would Chase subpoena records from in you in a lawsuit that they weren't involved in? Or do you mean that the AG never subpoenaed any records from Chase?

How can Chase vet this out?

You mean the AG office has not subpoenaed anything FROM Chase?

Like I said - the suit settled before I even applied for the card. Chase apparently did some googling and wasn't happy with the allegations.

So they're googling the businesses of all their customers? I just don't see this happening.

I am no libertarian in fact quite the opposite but this is pretty scary that Chase is looking into the private matters of its customers or potential customers!

If legal documents were filed with the courts, then they're part of the public record, and anyone can look at them (unless they're filed under seal). What's scary about that?

They seem to be taking the phrase "know your customer" quite literally...

The personal banker did go to my state official website to check my license when I opened Chase Ink at the branch. Even though I had been a Chase business checking account customer for more than 2 years. I did show them my EIN and LLC paperwork when I opened the checking account 2 years ago.
