If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:
CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

I would think it may have something to do with opening 3 new cards and applying for 5 new Chase cards in a matter of 32 days. Very risky looking to a bank if you need that much credit that quick...this is a classic example of jumping before performing your due diligence.
Yes, get your points out now. You are done with Chase for a long time.

To the OP, we all have bad habits, some are just more bad than others. So, your own issue with online gambling.

From the banks perspective, you are probably a higher risk than they deemed you to be during the application and approval process. Closing the accounts and informing you of the closure is a reasonable next step. Taking away your points (unless the manner in earning them violated policy) does not seem like a reasonable step. Nonetheless, I hope you are already making arrangements to use or transfer points over now. Not tomorrow, now.

Thanks for the solid posts. I definitely jumped the gun on the cc apps. I've xfer'd all the points out. And not that it matters but the gambling site deposits are a form of MS, I'm not actually playing I just withdrawal via bank wire 15k at a time for $45 fee.

You have no concept or idea on why it is gambling do you? The USA Feds told the banks that they would fine them big time and they would be complicit in a criminal enterprise, (Think RICO, seizures, criminal indictments, etc) if the banks did not stop online gaming transactions. Do you really think a SIC code that says books, groceries, matters? The banks have hired full time people who just work on eliminating online gambling. A lot more is at stake than your money.... Like the banks right to continue in the banking business. You do not want to mess with Feds. They pulled out a huge hammer. Trust me if they even smell online gaming you are out the door.

I really am to lazy to cite why but just google

You didn't bother to ask where I live, it's not illegal here. Also if you read the latest statements/posts from DOJ their monitor for online gaming has concluded their term. Also not a single indictment for online gambling sites since FTP/Stars in 11. They don't care anymore. On top of that, these charges are going through actual companies so don't know why you brought up SIC codes.

FURTHERMORE, I have spoken with Chase and the reasons I was closed were not gambling related:
-Rapid increase in revolving balances
-Too many requests for credit reviews

I should have read more but I still can't find a good articles/guides on proper etiquette for this game you guys are pros in. I guess my mistakes were applying for too many credit cards in too short a time frame but then I see all these guys doing 8/65/73s and doing card churning with 5 banks simultaneously so it was hard not to splurge.

First of all, I have 102k UR points and when I log in I still see them and as far as I can see I can still use them, is this a glitch and will they disappear soon? Should I immediately try xfering them to my preferred airlines.

Here's my timeline/info:

1) I've had 780+ credit for last 5 years

2) I just discovered miles game 2 months ago and have done following:
-- 1st CC: Chase Amazon which I've had for 4 years and have done $30K+ in legit Amazon spending debauchery
-- 2nd CC: Chase SW approved on 6/24
-- 3rd CC: Chase SP approved on 7/15
Opened personal checking accnt and business checking account, put 3K in each.
-- 4th CC: Chase Ink Plus approved on 7/26

3) Between 3rd card and 4th, I accidentally applied for a Freedom and an Ink without knowing there was a 2 card per 30 day rule and was of course denied. I also requested that the credit limits be reduced on each of those cards from 15k each to 5k each to accommodate more cards in the future

4) I paid off each card in full before interest kicked in

5) The SW and CSP cards were used for online gambling transactions under <1k each but they were from Canada and showed up as SPINALCARE.com or BOOKTUDOR.com, Printclothes, (categorized as online, mail or telephone transaction), so not even sure if these would trigger the gambling site issues (I don't see why or how they would). I also used them for restaurants / groceries.

6) The Ink Card I've had for a week and had a total of 5 charges: restaurant, amazon purchase, $6k in Amex Business GC (which was actually declined), and 2 Amex Serve charges for $300 and $200.

7) During this time, I also sent in 2 SMs: one was for the CSP card to ask a manager if he could expedite my UR points, the other was for my SW card to again ask a manager if he could expedite my SW points (I needed to book 2 flights ASAP).

8) Lastly, I had my domestic partner xfer me 50k UR points about 3 weeks ago.

BTW, I realize that several of these items are BAD PRACTICES and the lesson is read read read and then read more but want to know which ones specifically got the accounts closed.
Can i ask how many online gambling transactions your processed and how long ago until they cancelled?

On other threads, it has been mentioned that there are certain industries that Chase doesn't like regardless of whether they are legal or not. It may not have been your online gambling that prompted the closure. But Chase would be familiar with the practice of billing under a different name. The fact that the online casino doesn't bill under its business name seems a bit shady to me.

It has also been widely discussed here that Chase can just make a blanket statement that the account is too risky or unprofitable when that might not be the real reason the account was closed.

The item that jumps out at me is that you just opened Chase checking accounts. In the other account closure threads, it seems it is more common for Chase to close accounts when the customer has checking and or savings accounts with Chase. Do you have a lot of cash deposits to those accounts? Chase can see a much broader profile of your finances with checking and cc accounts open.

Thank you for posting. I'm sorry to hear this happened to you.

Dear OP-I do not know what you have been reading but SIC codes are used by banks for category of charge along with a merchant id where they monitor activity that can include charge backs and other issues. Many merchants have been killed by losing their merchant account. And I do not care where you live the USA banks have a big hammer above their head and now the foreign banks have the same issue all backed up by laws and acts. All the major banks are holding reserves for future govt fines

About 5 per credit card for <1k each (usually 3 for 1k and 2 for $300).

I live in Nevada, I suppose online gambling is still illegal on a national level and that banks have to comply with those regulations. I'd like to test it where I'm very careful about not raising any red flags and the only red flag is online gambling transactions under different names. See if that results in getting closed. Unfortunately not many cards left to try that test in.

Also I just tried applying for SPG and was told too many credit apps in too short a time frame. Any recommendations on optimal # of card apps per month across all the banks and how long I should wait before applying for one?

This all really sucks because I hired a "points coach" who worked for TPG for several years and seemed legitimate and yet didn't mention a single thing about "being careful" and "reading reading reading". At this point if I were to maintain a blog or offer consulting services the first thing I would ever tell anybody is to be extremely careful, read FT as much as possible and then read more. FML

Yeah, that may have been a bigger mistake than applying for all the cards all at once and using them on gambling sites.

In the last 2 months I've had 9 Experian inquiries and 2 EQ. When would be a safe time to apply for a CC or two again?
