If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

Or, at least done for 2 years, as the story goes. (I have no shutdowns, so no first hand experience. I do like to read about them to see how I can steer clear.)

My best guess.
Sorry about all the punctuation making me unintelligible
Jeanie is partially correct in deciphering my words .
I did dread calling recon .
I have never before felt jittery making such recon calls , but this time I did due to the " Inquisitional " stories here + the " unavailable pts " message that appeared @ the same time on my current Ink account + the 3 "application pending" messages with varying timelines I received .
I believed I was in the process of being shutdown as this seemed (to me) to be a possible current Chase trend & so moved out as many pts as I could .
I would have preferred to leave them as UR pts .
What actually happened was that the new Ink account had been added without my knowledge that I had in fact been approved & the pts message applied to this new account .
I did not notice until days later that there was a new account # listed in my line up of accounts online .
I do not know when this new account # initially appeared but I would swear it was not listed when I originally saw the " unavailable pts message "
Why would Chase post a new account # before notifying one of being approved ?! One of the pending messages I received from them stated the possibility of a 30 day wait time before I would hear from them .
I had a knee jerk reaction as it turns out
Live & learn !

Chase chased me a couple years ago, I stepped into a branch yesterday to deposit cash into my son's checking account and they have a relatively new policy that does not allow for cash deposits into another person's Chase account unless you have a relationship with the bank.
The teller asked me if I had any relationship with the bank and I almost blurted out we were estranged.
Last time I step into a Chase branch....until my divorce is final lol.

Chase closed all of my accounts

I just looked and every one of my chase accounts was closed. I had 5 cards. What likely happened and is there anything I can do? I used the cards all for regular spending except for getting the requirement needed. They gave me no notice.

What exactly does this mean? Are you saying you were MSing? If you were, that may be why you were shut down.

Have you called Chase yet? What did they say? You're not really giving us that much to go on.

I only had 4 personal. Hyatt, british airways, southwest, united. Sorry, not 5. I did MS to meet the spending, but after that only used the cards for regular purchases. I called chase, they said I need to wait for a letter to arrive in the mail. What will happen to my credit score?

How old is your credit history?
How much debt?
Did you transfer any UR? if not do it ASAP.
Did you open too many cards recently?

Letter will not say a jack..
Credit score will take a small hit.. 10-15 points but will go back.
But say goodbye to Chase for the next 10-15 years.

Credit history is 1 year 7 months. Zero debt. I didn't have any ultimate rewards, so that isn't an issue. Since last October I opened 5 chase cards, and closed one airtran card because they were going away. I just paid a $95 british airways fee, so I am hoping I can get reimbursed for that.

For MS I only did It at CVS and after meeting the sign up bonus, rarely did it. I paid off everything in full and never once owed money. My credit report was great.

The letter from Chase won't likely shed any light on OP's situation. There is likely more to this story, but OP will never learn it and unless Chase decides to assign a lurker to post the details of its customer's situation online, we'll never know either.

Actually it is not that odd. Chase will do something like this more than any card issuer I have heard. Read all the boards.

Check your TU and EX for soft pulls.
Sounds to me like they were watching you then pulled the plug.

You'll find the dates of when they were checking up on you.

You'll be looking for something like this.
