If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:
CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

So, just getting up to speed on this thread.

As a person who does have a long credit history with chase (10 years) and just got 3 biz and 5 personal cards this past year, I'm starting to wonder if I need to tread carefully.

But, I don't MS, no MOs, no BP, excellent credit, excellent income, solid/long credit file, etc. I'm not super worried but I do plan on leveraging my CIC 5X bonus categories by buying store GCs this year. I definitely won't reach my $25k 5x cap on the CIC but I'm wondering if I am in danger of being shut down even if I "only" leverage the 5x to $20k, for example and no other shenanigans (no MS, etc.)? Thoughts?

Best practices for handling the "review"

What are flyertalkers' "best practices" when their accounts are closed?

1. Do you contact Chase?
2. Do you move your URs? When?
3. Do you refrain from applying for CC from other issuers during the review?
4. Do you minimize spend on other CC accounts during the review?

What are your other reccomendations?

If you are worried your large balance of UR points might be confiscated

If you are worried your large balance of UR points might be confiscated you could transfer to a partner and risk devaluation, as per above. Another idea might be to pretend spend the points by booking a refundable trip. Don't know if this would work.

Honestly I wouldn't worry too much. Probably 95% of the spend on my Ink Cash is 5% categories, most of it is MS - buying VGCs at Staples/OD/OM, and the rest is my monthly Comcast & cellphone bills. The other 5% is when I occasionally buy gas with it (a 2x category).

Chase knows the 5x is a loss leader, which is why it's capped at a certain amount. As long as you're staying below that and aren't doing anything shady (anon bill pays, MOs, etc) I highly doubt you'll wind up on their shutdown radar.

Isn't Chase the one that gives people 30 days to move out their points?

There is no such thing as best practice in this case.

While it is true that some accounts have been closed incorrectly, most account closures will remain. How you fight against the closure highly depends on the exact reason of closure.

Stuff like Amazon, Target, Whole Foods, etc. Honestly, I don't know that it makes a difference buying a Target GC at an OSS or a VGC.

Thanks to all for the DPs and info in this thread. I'm hoping to apply for the CIP this year (paper app method) and would love to hear any feedback on my shutdown risk (to the extent that the risk can even be assessed). Factors:

- I have a Chase business checking account, opened 6 months ago
- I have 1 Chase biz card already (Ink Cash, opened 3 years ago) and 4 personal cards (CSR, IHG, Hyatt, and Freedom, all opened in 2015/2016)
- I come close to maxing out 5x on the Ink Cash and I take advantage of promos here and there, but no heavy MS
- Currently over 20/24 and opening about one new account per month (mainly Citi AA).

I've heard about shutdown being triggered by new Hyatt and IHG cards, but haven't seen any DPs concerning business cards. Thoughts?

Store GCs are usually alright with Chase as soon as you don't buy too much.

However, the trick is we don't know how Chase defines "too much".

The only thing I can say is be careful if you plan to use the GCs over time.

I've never had an issue with store GC with Chase (or any other institution) but I stay within reasonable credit utilization, and within reasonable amounts with respect to my income.

Thanks. Honestly, it's just to support my organic spend at these places. I'll probably end up buying $200-300 per week of store GCs.

As to your first question, does Chase look at type of GC (store vs VGC)?

Maxing out Ink Cash is not a risk factor. There is a reason such bonus category is capped. Chase would not bother you as long as you pass the far more important risk factors, one of them is to rapidly applying new credit in short period of time. (Fits your profile with the Citi cards).

It has nothing to do with Hyatt and IHG cards other than these 2 cards do not subj to 5/24. People who are over 5/24 and then went hoggish on other banks cards, to the point of becoming lol/24, (like in your case) and then applied these 2 most easy to get approved cards from Chase - when Chase does an account review which is very regularly these days, they see how many new cards have been opened in a short span and account shut down followed.

With your 20/24 even your Chase apps were all in 2015/2016, chances are even if you have a branch preapproval your application might not work. Or worse, you then draw scrutiny on your new card application history, then the axe falls.

Enjoy your Citi gravy train until it ends then give a good 9 to 12 months rest before attempting ANY Chase card would be a prudent approach.

I been getting many invitations to open Chase biz checking account. I finally bit.went into the branch and opened a biz checking account for 30K UR. Made the transfer for the acct opening deposit, Everything went smoothly.
As of this afternoon, i got a call from chase 800-935-9935. no one spoke when i picked up. i tried to login to my biz login tonight and was told online access was locked. i tried calling and was told that i needed to talk to loss prevention. i have not had any activity since i opened my account Saturday. No problems using my Ink card (just tried charging tonight.) I don't have issues logging into my personal accounts. I dont do any funny transfers to third parties. been at least 6mo since my last UR transfer.

i even had pretargted offers to open CSP (60k bonus) and Chase cash ink ($300?) i forgot.
i do have multiple chase cards and checking and savings accounts. and a 1M UR balance, via 2 Ink cards. did not join in on the CSR fun. been a while since i opened a chase card and at least 6mo since my last new cc app.

concerned they are getting me for the office supply spend at staples ($50K x2 each year for the last few years)

I wont be able to call them til they open up in the morning.

Am i F'd?!
