If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

I ran across this thread from another forum. I've been reading through this with great interested and also great fear.

I primarily use my personal cards for small business inventory which is about $40k a month. It's paid off in full every 30-45 days. In the US, I don't know how strongly this is frowned upon by the CC banks. Up until now I've used cards issued in Japan and there's never an eye batted except one 2 month treacherously long Amex (Japan) FR.

I quite recently got a Chase Sapphire Preferred with a pretty sizable limit which had I planned to use for the same purpose mixed together with my Japanese cards. However from the posts I've seen here and from other places, I'm getting worried that very large monthly purchases may get me shut down before I get a single charge approved for my 50k UR bonus. (an average swipe is $8-10k, rarely have anything smaller).

How is Chase with using consumer cards for business purchases?

My interest income to them would be minimal, but my swipe fees are quite high as I run over $500k a year through cards. All payoffs would be from my USAA or NFCU checking accounts, no MO direct or WMBP. I don't need MF because my regular spending is so high, just desire to switch from Japanese cards to American cards since it's about a 1% savings for me overall considering FX to transfer cash to my US accounts vs FX rates on Japan Amex, Diners, etc. (My business sells from US to Japan, henceforth the JPY transfers to my own accounts).

Curious for some more expert advice. I've been out of the US credit card game for a very long time.

I can't tell you about Chase but I've been using my BofA travel card for my business expenses over a year now. I average 100k a month. I usually pay the charge in a few days from my BofA business act. So far no acct closures. But I'm paranoid lol

I've opened 8 cards in the last 4 months from 7 different banks, is it a bad idea to apply for the Avios card? I'm worried about exposing myself to shut down when Chase sees my recent activity. I don't MS at all.

Sounds like you won't be paying down your balance mid-cycle in order to spend more than your credit line each month? If that's the case I wouldn't worry.

True, at least not in the frequency of a MS user, lol. Hopefully all goes well, it's a great card for me for with the mileage transfers, 3 airline programs I regularly use so more of an advantage to me than Amex.

What was your stated income on the application?

Sometimes the banks dont like people using personal accounts for business purposes, regardless of the ability to pay. The obvious is the different compliance requirements between business accounts and personal accounts.
The banks generally tolerate the usage within certain range, that is why many cardholders especially those who are on reimbursement type of arrangement, use their personal cards for business purposes.
However when the amount reaches certain level, the system may flag the account, and then human eyes look at it... Nothing concrete any of us would know or figure it out, but there is indeed an inherent risk for what you would like to do.

Why don't you just open a Chase business card, like the Ink? You still earn UR points, and Chase should be perfectly fine with an enormous amount of business spending that looks like legitimate business spending (i.e., not manufactured spending).
Happy likes this.

The BA card is not subject to the 5/24 rule. As long as you haven't opened 2 chase cards in the last month you are probably good. How many chase cards do you have?

You are probably good. If you get denied you can recon and close one of the others.

I have a personal United Club card that gets $7-$10k normal spend on it per month. Those points go right into United, not an issue.

I have over 820K UR points in my Chase Ink account. That account is totally normal spend $20k/month over about 15 card holders (medium sized business).

About 125k is from the Chase Sapphire Reserve from last year 100k signup bonus. I used it and abandoned that card. I don't think I will do anymore signups anymore with that kind of balance, to keep away from risk of shutdown.

I don't mind dumping 100k each into United and Hyatt but really don't know where to park the rest other than keeping them in the Chase account.

All total I have 3 chase cards. I will probably cancel the Chase Sapphire when the year is up. No MS at all on any card.

I know you all are going to say use them, I try. I've redeemed 4,050,000 points since I started tracking 4 years ago. I couldn't tell you how many were Chase points.

So here's my question: Am I at risk for confiscation/shutdown? It's starting to be enough points that I worry about it.
