If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

@ brclark82 you're okay. you can edit everything up there if u don't feel comfy sharing.

for most part, most folks who're getting shutdown are doing something fishy to guarantee a human review. example: bill paying from too many sources, depositing money order, abusing the hell out of 5% categories, MS'ing well above their stated income, recycling credit limit 3-4 times, using wallmart bill pay, having tons of expenses under "financial institute" category, etc etc

Ok, I figured but that is a big increase in available credit in a short time so I was just a little worried. How about cycling the cl on my new ink. Like I said it's only $5k with others around $20-30k and I wanna hit the bonus asap so I may put a little over $5k in month 1

Will Chase blacklist you if you cancel your card in the same billing cycle after you meet the minimum purchase for welcome bonus?

I am considering closing my BA card this month and I just got my 100k avios this billing cycle.

How do you know?

Will the agent who cancels my card check the card transaction history? I always cancel credit cards via SM online, not by calling card services over the phone.

They don't bother checking. In my experience they just cancel it, at least on the phone...

Only once has an agent ever made a comment about this and it was related to the Ritz card last year. I got the 140k points, and the airfare credit for 2014 and 2015, and cancelled in time to get my AF refunded. He made a comment that I was abusing the system and I asked him for his full name so I could report him to Chase for poor customer service.

Nothing happened to me.

Chase probably won't care, but I'm curious: How does it benefit you to cancel the card so early?

Specious. The annual fee won't hit for months. It's no reason to cancel now.

I am extremely paranoid about Chase noticing me and shutting me down. With regard to that, I had a couple of questions:

1) I read above that even with small amounts at office stores, there is a chance to get shutdown. I don't cycle my cl, do MO payments or anything like that. I do however buy Visa GCs at Staples.com 6x$300 twice every three months. My other spend on the Ink is minimal. I would say 90-95% of my spend on Ink is the staples purchases. Am I being too defensive?
2) Should I try to switch up the amounts of GCs every month so that it is not the same exact amount every month?

My CL is 10K on the Ink. Have 6 other Chase cards and about 300K in UR (i mention this because I also read DPs about Chase shutting people with high UR balances down). Just haven't had the time to use them in the past year.

Ideally I would like to do $1500-$2000 on the Ink at staples.com every month.

Had one of my co-branded cards cancelled last week after applying and being approved the week before and only holding the card for a few days, so that's odd, said they'd call me back when they figure out why it was cancelled, possibly fraud department related. All other Chase accounts open. Weird.

Since this will likely bring eyes to your account, if you have any suspect activity it might be prudent to transfer some points out to hedge against a shutdown.

What is your stated income(s)? What is your monthly spend on Chase cards? And monthly spend on other cards?

Yep, I just hate that sending UR points out (to my own partners) will probably draw even bigger eyes. It seems as though they are allowing 30 days these days once they cancel you though. I can't imagine that's my scenario but i'm not taking chances.
