If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

Closed for adding AU's? That seems odd. How many did you add, and in what sort of time frame? Has anyone else experienced that? I was thinking of adding some family members as AU's on an Ink card, but now, not so sure about that move...

In what manner you were adding your AUs?

Thanks. It's been a few months, so fingers crossed!

Have you heard of credit piggybacking? So I added and removed AUs every month (getting paid a good amount per AU) and after awhile Chase didn't like it. It's ok, the $$ was worth it at the end of the day.

I guess it really depends on what you use it for. I would not expect you'll be closed because you use your business card at grocery store or a gas station, as long as you don't do [much] MS on it.

I see. What kind of incentive were you getting from adding the AU's? I've heard of people paying to add AU's but never the other way around (sans initial sign up bonus, a la sapphire pref and united).

Here's what was happening: People with good credit card accounts started selling the right to be an authorized user to strangers with wretched credit who wanted to improve their scores. (It astounds me how nasty people always seem to find each other.)

Why would anyone with good credit sell the rights to use their credit and their credit line to some random person? That just sounds incredibly stupid.

It all depends on the amount of CL and length of history. The range is from 100-220 depending on those factors for me...although my friend was getting 260 per AU for his citi. For citi I'm able to add 8 AU's and for Chase it was 6 AU's so it was worth the risk for me.

Sounds like the recipient doesn't actually end up with physical possession of the card, so there isn't a huge amount of risk that I can see.

The risk is the shutdown.

I see. So someone pays me some cash and gives me all their info and I add them as an AU to my account and the AU card gets sent to my address. I continue to spend as usual.

Doesn't the crappy credit from the affect the main cardholder's credit?

I can't speak from experience, but I don't see how it could. None of their accounts get to your credit report. Just that one account of yours gets to their credit report.

Isn't that practice no longer help bad credits since Fair Issac has changed its formula to calculate FICO like 5 years ago?

EDIT: Just read the article from the link. Apparently this still exists.

Beside - most people get their accounts closed because of MS. You are gaming the system. So what is the chance that you will win??
The CFPB is already investigating rewards programs.

If you did not violate any terms and conditions, then Chase basically cancelled your card for taking advantage of the offer (sign up bonus, points for certain spending, etc).

Cancelling someone's card for using an advertised offer is not kosher.

You as an individual might not get a solution, but the CFPB might force the company to change their practices with enough complaints.

Read the link you post again, especially this paragraph:

At issue is whether consumers understand what it actually costs to earn the rewards — whether its airline miles, retail discounts, cash back, or some other benefit — that are advertised by the card issuers, and whether these companies are being transparent about the limits on using these rewards.
Basically, what you have mention has nothing to do with the situation people are facing.
