If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

Well at least the new terms look good in terms of what happens if you get shut down for excessive MS:

https://www.chase.com/ccpmweb/shared...ogramrules.pdf

How you could lose your points
• Your points don’t expire as long as your account is open, however, you’ll lose all your points if:
› you voluntarily close your account before you’ve used your points
› we close your account for any of the following reasons:
you don’t make the minimum payment on your account within 60 days of the due date
you fail to comply with this or other agreements you have with Chase
we believe you may be unwilling or unable to pay your debts on time
you file for bankruptcy
you die or become incapacitated
we believe that you’ve engaged in fraudulent activity related to your account or the program
we believe that you’ve misused the program in any way,
for example:
- by buying or selling points
- by moving or transferring points with or to an ineligible third party or account
- by repeatedly opening or otherwise maintaining credit card accounts for the sole purpose of generating rewards
• If we close your account for any other reason, you’ll have at least 30 days from the date we close your account to use your points. If you don’t use your points during that time you’ll lose them.
• If we decide to cancel the program, you’ll have at least 30 days from the date we cancel the program to use your points. If you don’t use your points during that time you’ll lose them
Notably, if they close your account, you have 30 days to get the points out. The only language in there that they might be able to stretch to mean excessive MS is "by repeatedly opening or otherwise maintaining credit card accounts for the sole purpose of generating rewards", but I think Chase's lawyers would probably advise them to steer clear of that clause. My understanding is that most customers whose accounts were closed aren't really given a reason (which is within Chase's rights), but if they are going to prevent you from using your points after they shut you down, they'd have to give you one of the reasons mentioned above.

Had very similar situation with the company I work for - Chase closed all accounts. We never had any kind of manufactured spend, did not even had points. Did have a lot of wires. Accounts were closed without explanation.

So, I totally believe the story.

That's pretty disturbing. My company doesn't use Chase for any commercial banking, but does have JPMorgan Chase Corporate cards for us (which I never use ). No manufactured spending and no points. Some wires.

Chase closed my 4 credit cards + 100,000 UR points

CSR said I have to call in during normal business hours so trying to get some info tonight before calling in tomorrow. Read through the threads and still not sure what were the exact reason(s) I was closed for. My questions are:
1) What or how many things did I do wrong?
2) When can I use Chase again and where can I read about perfect credit card client behavior since I clearly have no clue?

First of all, I have 102k UR points and when I log in I still see them and as far as I can see I can still use them, is this a glitch and will they disappear soon? Should I immediately try xfering them to my preferred airlines.

Here's my timeline/info:

1) I've had 780+ credit for last 5 years

2) I just discovered miles game 2 months ago and have done following:
-- 1st CC: Chase Amazon which I've had for 4 years and have done $30K+ in legit Amazon spending debauchery
-- 2nd CC: Chase SW approved on 6/24
-- 3rd CC: Chase SP approved on 7/15
Opened personal checking accnt and business checking account, put 3K in each.
-- 4th CC: Chase Ink Plus approved on 7/26

3) Between 3rd card and 4th, I accidentally applied for a Freedom and an Ink without knowing there was a 2 card per 30 day rule and was of course denied. I also requested that the credit limits be reduced on each of those cards from 15k each to 5k each to accommodate more cards in the future

4) I paid off each card in full before interest kicked in

5) The SW and CSP cards were used for online gambling transactions under <1k each but they were from Canada and showed up as SPINALCARE.com or BOOKTUDOR.com, Printclothes, (categorized as online, mail or telephone transaction), so not even sure if these would trigger the gambling site issues (I don't see why or how they would). I also used them for restaurants / groceries.

6) The Ink Card I've had for a week and had a total of 5 charges: restaurant, amazon purchase, $6k in Amex Business GC (which was actually declined), and 2 Amex Serve charges for $300 and $200.

7) During this time, I also sent in 2 SMs: one was for the CSP card to ask a manager if he could expedite my UR points, the other was for my SW card to again ask a manager if he could expedite my SW points (I needed to book 2 flights ASAP).

8) Lastly, I had my domestic partner xfer me 50k UR points about 3 weeks ago.

BTW, I realize that several of these items are BAD PRACTICES and the lesson is read read read and then read more but want to know which ones specifically got the accounts closed.

As I said these charges are just showing up as normal foreign transactions to obscure merchant names (that don't mention or are even remotely related to casinos/gambling) and they are all under $1k for a total of 5 per card. So I am not convinced that this was what caused the account closures. Any other ideas? I realize that several of these items are BAD PRACTICES but want to know which ones specifically got the accounts closed.

Online gambling would be my guess. Most states don't allow internet gambling IIRC.

I'm just not convinced it was the gambling sites since they don't show up as gambling (there are sites that do show up as gambling which I don't play on). What else are red flags here?

Lol why is everyone ignoring the process my gambling sites used for charging my CC? They are not charged as casinos/online gambling.

the banks and the risk analysts that work there are not morons... even if you think you're being coy and 'covering' your tracks by having transactions charged by random/hidden sites (that have generic sounding names/businesses,) it doesnt take a genius to figure out those sites are not legit. some dont even load up and simple google searches reveal they are a cover for (illegal) online gambling.

if you're gonna play with fire you're gonna get burnt. I'm not about preaching as to the ills of gambling, hell vegas is a lotta fun with a stack of Benjamins for a wkend. but doing something willingly that is explicitly against the T&Cs (which you are aware off) AND go a step further to conceal it, doesnt bode well for a relationship with any financial institution -- esp somebody as risk averse and notorious for closing accounts like Chase. on top of that pretty much every other thing you did: suddenly applying for a bunch of new credit, and then turning around and asking for reduced CL on all of em etc. thats gonna throw up a lotta red flags and somebody will take an interest in reviewing your accounts.
