If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

I read it to mean that he did not get automatic approval, but dreaded calling recon. So afraid of a possible blacklist and denial, he liquidated his UR points. But he was finally approved without talking to anyone.

Now he wishes that he hadn't transferred his points. The last sentence seems to say that now the points have been transferred they will be easier to use in the near future.

My best guess.

Quick update on my closure status:

1) All my & SO personal accounts were closed (about 10 total) in early April.
2) Ink accounts were left open.
3) I had already moved most of my UR points to my Ink cards ... but I moved all my points on my Ink cards to Hyatt and KE. Small number of points were cashed out at $.01 per point when personal accounts were closed. Checks for all have been received.
4) My online account remains open and I can see all my personal cards (closed) and business cards (open).
5) We requested refund of CSP annual fee from last October and they sent us a check ($95).
6) I've now gone through one complete billing cycle with my Ink cards and all is good ... UR points received as planned.

So, I have no real beefs with Chase, and am delighted that my Ink cards remain open. I won't use WM bill pay and will treat these cards aggressively but kindly. I'm guessing my aggressive use of WM Bill Pay had something to do with the closure.

Fingers crossed.

How old was your (or SO) oldest Chase card?

Chase closed my CC account with 300,000+ UR points

I have had Chase cards for 15+ years. Of the active cards at time of closure, the oldest was my Amazon card at about 7 or 8 years. Never missed a payment and always paid balance in full.

Yep, it must've been the aggressive WM BillPay. Thanks for the heads up - I'm sure there are others out there.

Probably because it can look like laundering/structuring/cycling and Chase doesn't like that.

Aggressive in terms of bill pay means making 3 or 4 payments per month per card. Aggressive in terms of using the card means taking full advantage of staples and OM promotions. Treating a card kindly means not cycling the CL more than once per month.

We'll see what happens.

If so then the Chase computer must make a funny face at pretty much everything that comes in from bluebird.

Well crap. I've done 4 WM BP in 7 days to Chase to my Amazon. All my other cards I don't use much. They close all your cards even though some cards you don't MS?

Slightly tangential, but the right people are actively discussing. Have any of you been aggressive with WM bill pay to other issuers (i.e., Barclay's / Citi) and experienced similar shutdowns there?

When Chase deems y'alls relationship is done. It means it's done.
