If you feel your account has been unfairly closed, consider filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Financial Bureau:

CFPB's complaint form: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

When someone reports an account closure here, a lot of the same questions get asked. It might be useful to answer some questions in advance. This could help figure out what happened or how to proceed:
  1. Did you transfer UR points to someone with a different address? Different last name?
  2. Did you sell UR points to someone?
  3. Approximately what percentage of your charges earned less than 5x points in the past 12 months?
  4. Did a Chase or non-Chase bank recently close one of your credit cards?
  5. Are you using up a large percentage of your credit line on all Chase and non-Chase credit cards?
  6. Is your total credit line with Chase much higher than with other banks?
  7. Did you apply for many credit cards or other forms of credit in the past 2 months? ("Many" may be hard to define.)
  8. If you have a Chase checking account how much did you typically deposit in money orders per month, if any?
  9. Did you recently start spending a lot more with Chase than in typical months?
  10. Is your monthly balance frequently close to your credit limit?
  11. Approximately what percentage of spending was on gift cards this year?
  12. How much of your bill do you typically pay using WM or KMart bill payment if any?
  13. Do you have a Chase mortgage or other account that might be profitable to Chase?
  14. Has your credit score or credit profile changed recently? As in: significantly more debt, more open credit lines, or a large drop in your credit score?

If you cannot see the obvious differences between these two things, I do not think that anyone is ever going to explain it to you...so I will just save my breath and move onto another thread

Do Chase mean "hard pulls" on your credit report?
To answer these questions from BRC01's letter

I had the 12 of the same letters sent to me - two for each of my six personal cards, one stating that they pulled my TU score, the other that they pulled EX.

I had 55% utilization report on two of my higher CL cards when they did their soft pull, which reported me as having ~15% of my RAI as outstanding debt. For someone with my profile (young, male, moves a lot) that looks pretty risky.

They also didn't like that I had 10 inquiries on EX. I thought I was around 6, but it turns out a few people (mortgage brokers) did HP without me knowing. I'm upset about that, but since the guy I worked with there now left the company, I'm rather out of luck.

I did manage to get my points out - as I had called them the day of shutdown, the online portals hadn't been closed and I took the points as Gift Cards/checks. The GCs came within 5 days, the checks took 15 calendar days.

I'm in the process of cleaning up my TU report (their HP appear on there as well) and should be done within the next 2 weeks. At that time, I'm going to freeze EX, call them back up, and have a little chat. It'll be about 50 days after account closing, and within the 30-60 day time frame they recommended I had to fix EX's excess HPs. I'm not sure how they'll handle having to look at TU (although it helps that the mortgage guy is gone, it's a legit excuse), and they already have my explanation of spending (AGCs, CVS) on file.

One nice thing is I did end up getting miles posted for my last statements - I'd heard that it didn't work out that way, and was pleasantly surprised at my SWRR numbers.

We'll see how the chat goings. If I can't persuade them to open my freedom account back up (one of my oldest CCs), I'll take to Twitter/FB. While they've said I engage in 'risky' behavior (which I'm starting to think is their word for MS), I'll have a clean TU and my utilization levels at 0%.

I'll report back when something changes.

I'm pretty sure they'll just ask you to unfreeze EX before proceeding with you. Also, can't they just soft pull EX anyways since they've already HP'd you for the previous cards?

AFAIK, a freeze doesn't stop soft pulls.

Anyways, I also saw my statements generate points after being shut down. Going to try to get my accounts reinstated as well.

55% utilization on 2 of your high limit cc's with a short credit history is a very bad idea. Its something that everyone should avoid, especially w a thin profile. Most here report well under 10%. Btw., threats of social media will likely get you nowhere. Furthermore, if I was the analyst...you freezing EX would look extremely suspicious.

Can they check the utilization rate mid cycle? I sometimes carry a relatively large balance prior to the statement closing, but it always gets paid off by the time the statement closes.

Soft pulls from creditors are usually monthly, but it's unlikely that they will line up with your cards reporting their balances. In other words, hard to time.

Some creditors will report mid-cycle. Even before your statement posts.

Awesome, thanks. Pretty bummed that Barclays posts mid-cycle. I've been running aGC through them on my Arrival card but always have it paid almost completely before statement closes. I might have to try to stay on top of my high balances from now on. Do you know what would trigger a mid-cycle report for Barclays?

Its likely a system update of some sort. I've seen this message before, so before panicking check back later. However, I never leave large UR balances just in case
