Moderator caution: Referral offers -or- links are NOT permitted in any thread in the Chase forum. Instead, see: Credit card referral offers (post only in this thread, read Wikipost first Please do not post ANY application links in the Wikipost or thread, even if you think they are not referral links. If you think there is an extraordinary circumstance where the link is difficult to find elsewhere, consult with a moderator before posting.

What is the best current offer?
A. Beginning April 14, 2022, the public offer has been increased to 80,000 Bonus Points After You Spend $4,000 On Purchases In The First 3 Months From Account Opening. Annual fee [$95] is not waived. This offer is now publicly available. Based on some datapoints, it may be possible to get this offer at your local Chase branch with a one year waiver of the annual fee.

For any CSP offer, be sure to check the pricing details before applying. Normally, the annual fee for the CSP for year 2 and later is $95; however, in mid-2014 and then again more recently, Chase began randomly changing the pricing for some visits to the pages above, with AF as high as $150. If you get a page with that higher pricing, try reloading the page.

Q. Can I apply for this card and earn the bonus after doing so previously?

A. This card is subject to the Chase 5/24 policy. For details, see the wiki and related discussion in Applying for Chase Credit Cards, 2017 onward.

As of August 2018, all Chase Sapphire cards are subject to an additional restriction:
The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.
See Sapphire (CSR & CSP) 48 months between bonuses, August 2018 for details and ongoing discussion.

Q. I'm an authorized user for a card issued to my spouse/parent. Does that prevent me from signing up for the same card and earning a bonus?

A. No, being an authorized user does not prevent you from obtaining your own card / bonus.

Q. I just met the spend requirement. When will I receive my signup bonus points?

A. In most cases, your bonus will be credited after the close of the monthly billing cycle in which you meet the spend requirement. (Chase never posts signup bonuses mid-cycle.)

However, owing to a quirk in Chase's system, bonuses associated with charges incurred in the last ~7 days of a billing period may not post until the end of the following billing period. This is true even if the charges appear on your current statement and generate the standard number of points per dollar spent.

Thus, if you meet your bonus spend threshold late in your billing cycle, you may not receive the corresponding signup bonus until the following month. Calling Chase to complain will not change this, so be patient and enjoy your points when they finally appear.

Q. What's the value of a UR point? What are the best redemption options?

A. Because these questions are not specific to the Sapphire Preferred card, see discussion in the following separate threads:
Q. What are the benefits of this card other than UR points?

Benefits Guide https://www.chasebenefits.com/sapphirepreferred

A. See the discussion in Chase Sapphire Preferred Benefits Thread, especially the source documents referenced in the wiki.

Just struggling to see how it can compete with many of the free cars out there.

Thanks!
Transferring points directly to airline programs for premium seats.

Some of the free cards were introduced well after the CSP and have surpassed it. And the CSP is/was extremely highly marketed on blogs. Poor reasons to keep the card for sure, but just some background.

Sure about the extra 5K for adding an AU?

Looking over the public offer I see on Chase.com, I see no mention of the extra 5K points for adding an authorized user. Is that a sure thing? I recall (years ago) doing that myself and getting it, but I'm a little wary of expecting any benefits that are not clearly stated and can't be printed or screenshotted.

I'd like to refer a friend for this (her first real card...oh, to be a Chase virgin again, sigh...). The benefits listed on the Referral page don't mention the extra 5K AU bonus either.

Am I too skeptical about this? Is the extra 5K for an AU a safe bet? Any recent DPs?

Thanks.

The 5k AU bonus is dead. I don't recall exactly when it died, but 6 months ago would be my best guess.

Thanks for the reality check.

If that's the consensus among regulars who are paying attention here (I wouldn't count myself among that group), then the title of this thread (currently " Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) : now 50K + 5K, $4k spend, AF waived 1st yr") and the answer to Q1 in the wiki (currently "A. 50K points for $4K spend over 3 months; AF waived first year, with an extra 5K for adding additional cardholder") should probably be updated.

New Chase Preferred card card points question

Good afternoon,

I listened to the travel hack show a few months ago and finally bit the bullet and applied for the Case Prefered card. The hope is to travel with the family more, they grow up so fast. Any how, my question is, If I spend $4000 in the first 4 months I get 50,000 points right? What if I buy travel things in that first 4 months? I need to buy plane tickets but my thought was to rack up (AND PAY OFF) the $4000 to get the 50,000 then take advantage of the 2:1 for the next points. OR am I misunderstanding it. After the $4000 will I have 54,000 in my bank (or 58,000 if I bought $4000 in airline tickets in that first 4 months) ???

Thanks

Tim

A much better card is the Delta Amex. You get 75K miles after spending only 3K in 3 months

You willl get the 50,000 signup bonus plus the points for each dollar spent including the category bonus. So, yes up to 58,000 points if you were to spend all $4k bonus all within the 2x spending category.

Here on FT there is a subForum for credit cards, found under the Miles & Points category towards the bottom, including a Chase specific subforum to help you on your way towards maximizing your efforts & benefits.

Can I upgrade a Freedom Unlimited to CSP? Will that count as a new card under the 5/24 rule?

Also, for the auto insurance benefit - since CSP only covers damage to or theft of the vehicle, if there is additional damage (personal, property), what should I do? Call my own insurance at the scene of the accident and then what?

Also, if after a car accident my rental is no longer drivable, what should I do? Do I have the car towed to any shop or to the rental place, and will CSP cover the cost of towing?

Yes, if you've had the Freedom Unlimited for at least a year and there's a minimum of $5k credit limit. It will not count as a new card.

These are pretty specific questions for something that hasn't happened yet. Regardless, there's a specific thread for them. I suggest reading here:

Maybe or maybe not. It's less about the raw number of miles/points, but more on how they would be used.

Personally, I value most non co-branded travel rewards credit cards ahead, as they would have more flexibility with transfer partners; whereas in the case of co-branded credit cards such as Delta AMEX, you would be limited to Delta and Skyteam redemption. The other variable is Delta does not have a fixed award chart, so potentially those 75K bonus could be enough for two tickets, or not enough for one.

I did confirm via SM that I met the spending requirement.
Hi: Have you received the bonus 30K points?

They had to manually add the 50k it as it was still missing on the 4th statement, taken care via SM.
