What is the best current offer?
A. Beginning April 14, 2022, the public offer has been increased to 80,000 Bonus Points After You Spend $4,000 On Purchases In The First 3 Months From Account Opening. Annual fee [$95] is not waived. This offer is now publicly available. Based on some datapoints, it may be possible to get this offer at your local Chase branch with a one year waiver of the annual fee.

For any CSP offer, be sure to check the pricing details before applying. Normally, the annual fee for the CSP for year 2 and later is $95; however, in mid-2014 and then again more recently, Chase began randomly changing the pricing for some visits to the pages above, with AF as high as $150. If you get a page with that higher pricing, try reloading the page.

Q. Can I apply for this card and earn the bonus after doing so previously?

A. This card is subject to the Chase 5/24 policy. For details, see the wiki and related discussion in Applying for Chase Credit Cards, 2017 onward.

As of August 2018, all Chase Sapphire cards are subject to an additional restriction:
The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.
See Sapphire (CSR & CSP) 48 months between bonuses, August 2018 for details and ongoing discussion.

Q. I'm an authorized user for a card issued to my spouse/parent. Does that prevent me from signing up for the same card and earning a bonus?

A. No, being an authorized user does not prevent you from obtaining your own card / bonus.

Q. I just met the spend requirement. When will I receive my signup bonus points?

A. In most cases, your bonus will be credited after the close of the monthly billing cycle in which you meet the spend requirement. (Chase never posts signup bonuses mid-cycle.)

However, owing to a quirk in Chase's system, bonuses associated with charges incurred in the last ~7 days of a billing period may not post until the end of the following billing period. This is true even if the charges appear on your current statement and generate the standard number of points per dollar spent.

Thus, if you meet your bonus spend threshold late in your billing cycle, you may not receive the corresponding signup bonus until the following month. Calling Chase to complain will not change this, so be patient and enjoy your points when they finally appear.

Q. What's the value of a UR point? What are the best redemption options?

A. Because these questions are not specific to the Sapphire Preferred card, see discussion in the following separate threads:
Q. What are the benefits of this card other than UR points?

Benefits Guide https://www.chasebenefits.com/sapphirepreferred

A. See the discussion in Chase Sapphire Preferred Benefits Thread, especially the source documents referenced in the wiki.

If I add an authorized user to get the additional 5,000 points, is there any requirement as to how long I have to keep that authorized user on the account? Can I simply remove him/her after a month or two without losing the points?

See the response I received below via SM:

Thank you for your interest in the Chase Sapphire
Preferred bonus points offer.

We are unable to apply the 50,000 bonus points offer to
your account. This offer was for accounts with an annual
fee of $125. Upon review, I see that your account ending
in XXXX has an annual fee of $95.

Although we appreciate your loyalty, we ask that you trust
that this decision is the same for all members. We feel
that adhering to the same policy for all members is the
best way to remain fair and consistent.

You are a valuable Chase Sapphire customer for us and we
will be pleased to apply the 5,000 bonus points offer
after adding the first authorized user to your account.
Please respond with the name of the person you would like
to add on the account as Authorized user and we will be
happy to apply the 5000 points to the account.

Once we hear from you, we'll process the information and
you should receive a new card at your mailing address
within five business days.

As the Primary Cardmember, you will be responsible for
repaying all the balances on the account.

- Your Authorized User has the same charging privileges
you have, but does not have financial responsibility for
the account.
- For the Authorized User, this account will be reported
to the credit reporting agencies as an Authorized User's
account. This could affect the Authorized User's credit
score.
- All correspondence, including statements and
notifications, will be sent to the name and address listed
on the account for the Primary Cardmember.

If you have any questions, please call us at the number on
the back of your card. We're here to assist you anytime.

Thank you for being our customer. We appreciate your
business.

If you have any further questions, please reply using the
Secure Message Center.

Thank you,

They denied me of the 5k bonus for adding an authorized user to my account. I will need to follow up. Thanks for posting this vital information.

Same here. Account was opened on Sept 5th. Got the 5k points posted immediately (already had an authorized user) but denied the 10k. Did not offer to pay the increased fee.

I opened an account about a month ago with the 40k offer. I called to ask if I could add an authorized user for 5k and mentioned the 50k offer. She said she would give me the 50k offer if I was willing to pay the $125 fee instead of the original $95. So it seems to pay to call vs. sending a secure message.

I'm kind of a newbie to this, so I am a little points happy, so I said sure. Now I am wondering if an additional $30 fee per year was worth it, but I guess i can always cancel after the first year.

I think the extra $30 is worth it. 10k is worth AT LEAST $100 - and that's if you take it as straight cash back (which nobody here would recommend). That means it would take at least 4+ years for the increased fee to offset the additional points. If you're keeping the card for 4 years - its probably a good enough card to be worth the $125, and you can always "reassess" at some point between now and then.

PS - Welcome to Flyertalk, and good work getting matched to the better bonus!

On second call, and after talking to a "specialist" I was approved. I already had a CSP Mastercard and a Chase non-preferred Visa - gave up the non-preferred Visa. I wrote about it on my blog -

I got my CSP just 3 weeks ago and Chase told me had no way to match that 50k offer for me! I tried via SM first, and then via phone. The two reps I reached were in Springfield, MO. They were polite but quite firm that Chase was not able to increase the bonus as the 50k card was a separate product.

Good job kayshaj!!! Anyone else have luck getting the bonus matched?

i called CSP customer service 1-(800)-297-5578. the agent on the other end sounded clueless. these were the 2 questions i asked

1. When does this offer end?
"i can't guarantee anything on my end"

2. if I added an AU to my CSP, would that person still be eligible for the sign-up bonus in the future if s/he were to apply for CSP as the main cardholder/applicant?
"the AU would be reported to the credit bureau and their eligibility would determine whether they are approved for the CSP card"

anyone know the answer to these questions? i'm gonna call in tomorrow morning to get better answers from another CSR.

1. no clue
2. in my experience, the au has no problem to get her/his own sign-up bonus in the future.

Is chase going to send the chip version to existing CSP ? (without changing the fee to $125)
I signed up very recently so I'm kinda bummed I got 40k instead of 55k and also not getting a chip for travel - I wouldn't mind the extra $30 to pay later (but would mind if I don't get the 15k extra URs)

Way to go!
I tried switching to the higher fee card too, but my CSR said I couldn't. Guess I'll HUCA
